(Debbie Davidson photo) Peewee Bs keep busy The Lucknow Peewee's travelled to Kincardine. on Sat., June 5 to. participate in the Legion Zone Ball Tournament. Lucknow played two games in the morning, losing 8-3 to Goderich and 19-3 to Kincardine. Lucknow stayed close to Goderich in the first game until the third inning when Goderich scored two to take the lead and go on to the win. In the second game, Lucknow was mercied by Kincardine. Special note to this victory by Kincardine is that they scored mostof their runs after Lpcknow's defence had two outs on them in three different innings. The teams in this tournament were all "A" teams with Lucknow's being a "B" team. With each game, the players are developing their skills and gaining confidence. The team would like to thank ' the Lucknow Legion for entering them in this tournament. Purple Grove Wilda and Harvie . Thompson visited with Wray and Linda Thompson of •Mississauga. They also visited their cousins, Dorothy. Both Don and Currie were celebrat- ing their 39th ,birthdays...again. Lucknow wins home game On Sun., June 6, Lucknow clinched a victory over Mitchell with a score of 13-9. Lucknow's offense was on a roll with all the players reaching base at least once. Lucknow's pitching staff struck out nine, gave up four hits and walked six during seven innings. Kiel Farrish pitched 3 2/3 innings, striking out seven. Noah Sommer and Justin Brown finished the game. The team, after playing two games in the rain on Saturday, certainly are a fair weather teams as they committed no errors and hit Mitchell's pitching. Next practice is Wed., June 9, at 7:30 p.m. and the next game is June 10 in Exeter. pURPLE GROVE Bruce County Dairy Princess, Christine Goodhue was the guest speaker at the June W.I. meeting. She made several tasty, simple fruit and vegetable dips and high- lighted her year as dairy princess. Convenor Brenda Bridge thanked Christine for her excellent presenta- tion and wished her all the best in her future plans. Twenty-five members including. guests from the Ripley and Reid's Corners branches answered the roll call with a ' Cheese Fact. ,Betty Needham read a Scripture Lesson and led the Lord's. Prayer. Fran Farrell reported on the Bruce South.jDistrict Annual Meeting _held May 18 in Kincardine. Another highlight of this meeting was the presentation to'the. Charter W.I. members, Wilda Thompson, Katherine Collins and Marion Emerson. Marion Lowry presented each life member with a certificate andpin in recognition of their association with' the Purple Grove Women's Institute. A Iunch was served by Hostess Maureen Collins and Mary Ann Kukoly. Ainslie and Elizabeth Simpson 'visited with Aunt Edith MacKay and family of Guelph: The girls also called on their Aunt Christine and Uncle Dave :Toupe. Grandma Edith Simpson looked after Dayna for the day. • John MacKay, Travis Bretton, Melissa and Dustin Freer and Krista Snow were week end visitors with. the. Farrell kids; namely Glen, Jamie and Carmen. Norval and Isabel Stanley were recent visitors of Jes ie and Stan , Tyrell of Southampton.
