for Wingham. hospital
The Royal Canadian Legion District 'C' charitable foundation has
donated $10,000 toward the purchase of a portable x-ray unit for the
Wingham and District Hospital.
Vince McInnes, president of Wingham Legion Branch 180, said it was
an honor to make the presentation on behalf of Wingham and the other
local branches.
Charitable Foundation chairman for District 'C', George Campbell, said
the Legion had worked on this for quite a while before it got through.
Money from the foundation is generated byoLegion members, members
of the Auxiliary and donations by businesses.
Mr. Campbell said when he first became chairman of the foundation, it
was donating $40,000 per year -- that amount is now up to $600,000.
A lot of hospitals now get small bits of money.
He noted the foundation cannot afford to purchase the whole x-ray unit,
but a $10,000 donation will help.
Hospital board chairman Doris Inglis thanked the Legion for its help and
said.the support of the Legions in this area is "outstanding".
She said community involvement is what makes small hospitals suc-
cessful.
