Clubs join forces at park
Twenty-eight members and two

Cranbrook 4-H clubs joined forces
last Saturday at the Wawanosh Park
camp grounds.
A I4 -tent village was built for the
camp out, and then the volunteer
chefs, Tony McQuail and Jolene
Weber, served a hot lunch.
The first club was "Take a walk
on the wildside". Junior leaders,
Dave and Chris Armstrong, who are
members of the 1st Brussels Scout
Troop, gave a compass and map
reading demonstration.
Ross Hemingway, the assistant
leader, gave a first aid
demonstration on splinting with
proper first aid equipment, and then
using whatever was handy, such as
tree branches and shoe laces.
Free time after supper was spent
around the campfire enjoying hot
chocolate, marshmallows and
spooky stories.
Dave and Chris woke up the crew
on Sunday morning by using loud
music and animal sounds. It was an
early 7 a.m. wake up call.
Members worked on Protecting
Planet Earth until lunch time.
After lunch, Jeff Mullen and Ester
Buck took the group 'on a hike of
the park and some reforestation
land 'all belonging to Maitland
Valley Conservation Authority.
During the hike members learned
how to tell the age of a pine tree
without cutting it down. They also9
helped to install new 'bat homes' in
the trees that 'a previous 4-H club
had made.
Many plant types were viewed,
including Trilliums and Skunkweed.
The evening was spent working
on project books, being entertained
by Double- Trouble and watching
fire works.
On Monday morning the third
project "Conservation" was started.

bers resumed working on their
