Women gather
for general
meeting
The general meeting of the Luck -
now United Church Women was
held on May 18 in the church par-
lor with Ann Anderson and her
stewardship committee in charge of
the worship service.
Using our Gifts was the theme of
the devotions. Mrs. Anderson read
the scripture. A hymn was sung. A
drama called Tips and Tithes was
performed by Kay Crawford, Mary
Lou Priestap, Ann Anderson, Elaine
Steer, Alice Ritchie, Marlene
Struthers and Laura Lee Cayley.
Collection of the offering and
singing another hymn closed the
worship portion of the meeting.
Three Kicks in Every Dollar was
read by Deanna Reavie to open the
business portion. Various reports
were received. United Church cook
books are still available. Upper
Room will be purchased for the
nursing and retirement homes:
Songs of the Gospel will be ordered
for the choir and church pews in
memory of • Ada Webster.
The YWCA yard sale will be held
at the United Church on June 4,
from 4 to 7:30 p.m.
Mrs, Reavie closed the meeting
with the message - spread the
gospel wherever you go and if
necessary use words.

The first meeting of the
Whitechurch 4-H club safety around
the house was held May 18 at the
home of Kathleen Elliott, with 18
present.
The leaders demonstrated how
electric current travels through wire.
The executive of the club includes
Dawn Dow as president; Susan
Bieman as vice; Beth Gugg as
secretary, and Bryon Beyersbergen
as press reporter.

Mary MacDonald
1903 - 1993
Mary MacDonald of o Malcolm
Manor, Kincardine, and formerly of
Ripley, died at the Kincardine
Hospital, on May 15, 1993, in her
91st year. Mrs. MacDonald. was a
member of the Knox Presbyterian
Church, Kincardine.
She was born on Mar. 26, 1903,
in Huron Township, a daughter of
the late Donald and Isabel (MacKe-
nzie) Finlayson.
Mrs. MacDonald is survived by
her children Farquhar and his wife

Mae, of Brampton; Marietta and her
husband Gordon Dawson, of
Australia; Dr. Sandy and his wife
'Sandra, of Kincardine; and seven
grandchildren.
She is also survived by two
brothers, Ken and Malcolm Fin-
layson, both of Toronto, and a
sister, Sarabelle Finlayson also of
Toronto.
Mrs. MacDonald was predeceased
by her husband Donald MacDonald,
and sister and brothers, Jean, Gor=
don, . Duncan, George, Farquhar,
Rod, John, Alan and Donald.
Rev. A. Paisley of the Knox
Presbyterian Church, Kincardine
and Rev. H. Nugent of the Ripley
Presbyterian Church conducted the
funeral at the MacKenzie and
McCreath Funeral Home, Ripley,
on May 17.
Flower bearers were Daphne
MacDonald and Ann Verth.
Pallbearers were Rod Finlayson,
Curtis MacDonald, Ian Finlayson,
Ron McLean, Devon MacDonald,
and Drew MacDonald.
Interment Ripley Cemetery.
Hazel Anderson
1902 - 1993
Hazel Anderson of Pinecrest
Manor Nursing Home, formerly of
R.R. 1, Lucknow, died at Pinecrest
on May 16, 1993 in her 92nd year.
Mrs. Anderson was a teacher and
taught students with special needs
for many years. She was a member
of the South Kinloss Presbyterian
Church.
The former Hazel Maclntosh was
born in Lucknow, on Nov. 19,
1902, a daughter of the late Peter
and Effie (McDougall) MacIntosh.
She was the last member of a
family of nine girls.
She is survived by a daughter,
Mary Joe and her husband, Larry
Cowan of R.R. 1, Lucknow; four
grandchildren, and three great
grandchildren.
Mrs. Anderson was predeceased
by her husband Torrance Anderson,
and sisters Grace, Nina, Eunice,
Donalda, Gertrude, Beatrice, Irene
and Ruth.
Rev. Peggy Kinsman of the South
Kinloss Presbyterian Church con-
ducted the service on May 19,
1993, at the MacKenzie and
McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow.
Pallbearers were Kevin Cowan,
Mike Cowan, Sandy McMillan, and
Brian Magel.
Interment South Kinloss

Matilda (Tillie) Hackett
1904 - 1993
Matilda (Tillie) Lane Hackett, of
Pinecrest Manor, Lucknow, died at
Pinecrest on May 16, 1993, in her
89th year. She was a member of the
Lucknow United Church.
Mrs. Hackett was born in Ash-
field Township, on Sept. 9, 1904, a
daughter of the late David and Ida
(Lane) Hackett.
Mrs. Hackett is survived by her
children, Donalda and her husband
Earl Jamieson; Donald and his wife
Shirley; Allan and his wife. Mar-
garet; Freda and her husband Doug
Langton; Lois and her husband
Laverne Cunningham; Barry and his
wife Diane; Joyce and her husband
Ken Elphick; Kathleen and her
husband Ken Ackworth.
Mrs. Hackett was grandmother to
30 grandchildren and 49 great
grandchildren.,
She also leaves to mourn her
passing a sister Mary MacGillivray.
Mrs. Hackett was predeceased by
her husband Thomas in 1982, a
brother Caswell Hackett, and two
sisters Loretta Hackett, and Mil-
licent Bowles.
Rev. Albert Cook of the Lucknow
United Church conducted the
funeral at the MacKenzie and
McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow
on May 18.
Flower bearers were 16,
granddaughters: Sharon
Montgomery, Rosalea Rapson,
Wilma Blake, Darlene Wattam,
Donna Creighton, Cheryl Beasley,
Gail McPherson, Janice Van

Dynes Campbell
1901 - 1993 -
Dynes Campbell of Pinecrest
Manor Nursing Home, Lucknow,
formerly of Ashfield Township,
died at Pinecrest on May 19, 1993.
Mr. Campbell farmed for many
years in Ashfield Township prior to
his retirement. He was a member of
the Lucknow United Church.
Mr. Campbell was born on Nov.
9, 1901, in 'Ashfield Township, a
son of the late John and Martha
(Durnin) Campbell.
He is survived by his wife Edna
(Fowler) of Lucknow, and a son
Harold, of Kamloops, B.C.
Mr. Campbell was predeceased by
three Sisters Nellie Phillips, Edith
Phillips, and Georgina Hunter.
Rev. A. Cook, of the Lucknow
United . Church, conducted the
funeral from the MacKenzie and
McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow,
on May 21.
Flower bearers were Amy and
Elizabeth Foran.
Honorary Pallbearers was Wilfred
Hackett.

John Hunter, Lorne Phillips,
Leonard Phillips, Stewart Caesar

Meals on Wheels volunteers honored
The Lucknow Meals on Wheels
held an appreciation evening on
May 19 for all the volunteer people
who deliver meals. Various games
were enjoyed during the gathering
at Pinecrest Manor, with some
residents participating.
Presently 34 volunteer drivers
give of their time, but more would
be welcomed.
June Pyette
named chair
of provincial
program
June Pyette of Ashfield Township,
the seniors chair for Lucknow
Legion Branch 309, was appointed
chair of the Provincial Legion
Seniors Program on May 12.
The appointment was announced
at the 38th annual bi-annual provin-
cial convention of the Royal.
Canadian Legion. The program
involves communicating seniors'
issues and needs, acting to initiate
programs • that answer identified
needs and advocating for the
development of services.
Mrs. Pyette believes that her job
with Home Support Programs at
Town and Country Homemakers
and this appointment relate very
well.
Involvement in Legion service is
a family event for the Pyettes.
June's husband Ed has been named
District Seniors Chair.
In the eight years meals have
been delivered there has been only
two occasion where they failed to
arrive.
Ruth Thompson, one of the com-
mittee members, said that in the
past year over 2,000 meals were
delivered.
Janice Van Osch, food supervisor,
spoke on behalf of Pinecrest Manor.
Mary Boyle, treasurer, gave a sum-
mary of the receipts and expen-
ditures of Meals on Wheels for
1992. The meals are full course and
include dessert for a cost of $3.50.
Many say "They are., a surprise,
something different every day."
They can be delivered two, three or
five times a week.
Light refreshments were served
and each volunteer family received
a geranium.
Meals on Wheels has been active In Lucknow for eight years.
