I have enjoyed keeping Dungan- non and area in the news and ap- preciate the continuing support ,of those of you who submit items to me. As most of you are aware, I will be retiring from this position as of May 31, with the last column ap- pearing on June 2. I hope sincerely that someone out there will come forward and take up the challenge of writing this column. Thank you for your sup- port and encouragement. It is with great sadness that we say farewell to one of our life-long residents of our village. Cora (Fi- nnigan) Sherwood, beloved wife of Alvin J. Sherwood, passed away Monday, May 17. Cora was soon to celebrate her 80th birthday. She is resting at the McCallum- Palla Funeral Home in Goderich. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19. To Alvin, Robert and family, our sincere condolences at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Seniors news Nine tables were filled for the commencement of play at the week- ly euchre party on May 12 at the Seniors' Centre. Finishing in the winners' circle were Lois Chamney, . Dora Alton, Bernice Henry, John Harris and Joe Courtney. Agricultural Society news Twenty-two tables of wares were available for sale at the semi-annual Flea Market, held on Saturday at the Dungannon Agricultural Hall. Everything from sports cards, baking, sports and workwear to a vast variety of used items were set to sell. An excellent . crowd took advantage of the many bargains to be had. The lunch booth was very capably manned by the Dungannon Union Pastoral Charge CGIT group, who also had a bake table. The Explorer Group of the charge set up a table of wares as well as holding a , draw four four different baskets of goodies. The moms and dads basket was won by Janie Smyth, the fruit basket by Wayne Wilson, the baby care basket by Dby Sandra D'Aoust UNGANNON Judy Smyth and the student basket by Rick Patterson. If you missed this market, they will be doing it all over again in the fall. Watch for further announ- cements on this event. Thecommunity's continual sup- port is gratefully acknowledged by all the participating groups. Without your attendance, it just wouldn't work. Social news Brett Courtney, two-year-old son of Gary and Chris Courtney of Blyth, spent a few days last week with Grandpa Joe and Grandma Teresa Courtney. Joe and Teresa attended the 36th wedding anniversary celebration for Ian and Donna (Lannan) Parker of Bryanston on Saturday, May 15. On Sunday, they journeyed to London to visit with Art and Kay Dalton. Church news The service of worship at Dun- gannon United Church was under the leadership of Rev. Garth Bogart with Mary Garriock serving as organist. During the service, the Union CGIT group, accompanied by As- sistant Leader Mary Garriock, sang three musical selections entitled Thank You Lord, Amazing Grace and Pass it On. The sermon text was based on Romans 3: 21-26, and was entitled "Batters Up." May 20 will ,be the date of the Aids Awareness Night sponsored by the Willing Workers Group. This will be held at the Dungannon United Church, commencing at 8 p.m., with guest speakers Donnie and Alma Plant of Londesboro. Plan to attend this informative evening.
