Marion Zinn hosts
Dungannon WI
The monthly meeting of the
Dungannon Women's Institute was
held May 6 at the home of Marion
Zinn with 12 members in attend-
ance.
Roll call was "a story your father
or mother told you."
One was how did the wagon get
on the roof at Halloween, dentistry
beside a country road by a passing
dentist, freak lightning entering a
house and killing the dog and at the
same time bursting a bag of pepper
and scattering it all over.
One woman walked miles to find
and adopt a baby that needed a new
and loving home.
Marion Zinn spoke on a miracle
which only a genealogist could
dream of: a visit to the ancestral
province in Germany (East). A
distant relative over there is
researching and cataloguing fam-
ilies.
amilies. Some, as in the case of the
Zinn name, go back five or six
generations.
He and his wife took Marion .and
Warren on a tour of places where
some of these people had lived in
the past.
Marion took .pictures of present-
day Germany. Most people live in
towns in row housing and commute
to large farms outside. This part of
the country is known as the
breadbasket because of the grain
fields.
They visited many old churches
and cemeteries which are beautiful-
ly kept, each grave having about a
foot-high.cement wall around it.and
within this enclosure flowers and
small shrubs are grown. Very beau-
tiful.
The meeting closed with a Chi-
nese auction and cake and ice
cream served by Peg Purdon and
Marion Zinn.

North Huron Vet Club
The North . Huron Vet Club dis-
cussed the secondary parts of the
respiratory system when members
met on May 13 at the Blyth Vet
Clinic.
Members learned about the ex-
change that occurs between the
oxygen in the alveoli and carbon
dioxide in the blood capillaries.
They then examined three lungs of
cattle - a calf, a young animal and
an adult. The adult was opened.
Paula Burnett, a student' of the vet
college, was welcomed to the
meeting.

Lubbers, Marjorie Wall and Jean

Did you know?
May 20, 1943 - It was reported
that Canadian housewives requested
nearly 210 million pounds of sugar
for canning, which is almost double
the' amount used last summer, when.
they could get practically all the
preserving sugar required. Not more
• than 100 million pounds of sugar is
likely to be available for preserving
this season.

Crop Tips
Timing the Key to Good Pesticide Performance.

Time of Herbicide Treatment in Crop.
Areas
Q The susceptibility of both crops and
weeds •to.herbicides is related to the time of
application. Therefore, it is important to use
the chemical at a time when the crop is at
its maximum resistance and the weeds are
at their maximum susceptibility. This time
1. Identify pest early
2. Is it a problem or may it become a problem
3. Identify all alternatives
4. What are costs of not treating
will vary depending on the crop involved and
the herbicide being used.
1'7 This statement is in fact true for most pesti-
cides. Along with crop tolerance one must also'
pay attention to pre -harvest interval, when con-
sidering insecticides and/or fungicides.
67 Proper . timing of application depends on
many things - a few are listed below. ,
5. What are the costs of treating
6. Identify alternative which provides best val-
ue.
7. Availability of treatment if necessary
8. Apply - according to label.
