Heather cleared 1.53 metres to advance to WOSSA. She also took first in the triple jump.(Cameron Wood photo) ABC books are looking good by Bethany Luchies "Now I know my ABC's..." The first and second graders have been busy making ABC or story books with their reading partners. The books are looking good. "G...B...no...F...'. "The third, fourth, and fifth grade students have been practicing their recorders. They are going to be playing songs for. the graduation ceremony. Keep up the good work! ' "3 x 6=...um...9...no 18!" The - third graders are finally finished their multiplication and division tables! Congratulations! . "Thwack! All right - a home run. Run!" Thesixth, seventh, and LDCS EXPRESS eighth graders have been practicing furiously for an upcoming softball tournament.. The tournament is to be held on June first. Good luck! "HovV much money do we have now?" The seventh . and eighth grade students will be going on a class trip to Ottawa the last week in May. They have been working hard to make enough money for a motel and for the cost of food. "How high can you jump?" The Wellknown resident celebrates her 80th Margaret Thompson of Lucknow was honored at an open house on Saturday, May 15, to mark her 80th birthday. Friends and family called at the home of her son and daughter-in- law Don and Bev Thompson on South Delhi Street in Lucknow. Margaret was born May 7, 1913 on the home farm at St. Helens, the oldest of four daughters of Edward Thorn and Rosemary Miller. She graduated from the Registered Nurses class. at Guelph General. Hospital in 1932. She married Campbell Thompson in Toronto on May 6, 1933 and the couple lived in Lucknow all their married life. Campbell, for many years publisher of The Lucknow. Sentinel, died in 1964. Margaret worked with her hus- band in the newspaper business and . later with her son Don. She has a family of three, Donald Thompson of Lucknow, Patricia Hunter of Wingham, and Joanne McFarlane of Brampton, also seven grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. Special friends who attended from a distance were Anne Kelso of St.. Thomas and Florence Pfohl of Hanover, both members of her nursing graduation class; Eunice and Mel Goyette of Kingsville, Rose acid Elwin Hall of Owen Sourid, former residents of Luck - now. Mrs,McDonald has visitors Mothers Day . visitors with Nina McDonald were Mr. and Mrs. Ron Young of Wiarton, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Kaufman and daughter Kim- berley df. Mildmay, Mr. and, Mrs. Don Bushell and family of Kinloss. Later they went to Mr: and Mrs. Bert Thompson's home at Culross: Mr. and Mrs,-. Walter-Breckles- went to Sarnia on ,Tuesday to be with his sister Madeline Haldenby. We,extend sympathy to Madeline Haldenby of Sarnia in the death -of her husband Harold Haldenby on Tuesday. Harold and Madeline and their family were former Kinlough folks, before moving to Sarnia. Ethel Sparling of Walkerton is a sister. The funeral and burial was at Sarnia on Friday. Relatives and friends from here attended. Ladies from here attended the flower shows at Ripley on Tuesday and at Lucknow on Wednesday. Marretta Hodgins formerly of here andnow of Niagara Falls has been hospitalized for a time but is home again. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Haldenby of Guelph spent a few days at the KINLOUGH , by May Boyle Haldenby home here. They had been to Sarnia to their cousin Harold Haldenby's funeral. Hospital bridge play results The final evening of play for the Wingham and District Hospital bridge was held last Monday, with players from Lucknow, Teeswater and Wingham. Prizes were awarded for the 1992- 93 season as follows: high single for one evening - Jean Whitby, Lucknow; high aggregate for season - Jessie Chester, Lucknow. Jean Whitby was the high winner for the final evening. Draw prizes were awarded to Ethel Willis, Beksie McKenzie and Florence Grant. A floral arran- gement made and donated by Auxiliary. president Marlene Leed- ham was won by Mable Whitby. entire school has been practicing foi Field Day, which is to be held on June 4. Everyone has been working hard to do their best in the events.. "What do you know about health?" The third through eighth grade students participated in a Canada Health day contest by creating posters that had something to do with health. There were three winners from Lucknow and District Christian School: Jos Eisen received a first, Julie Kikkert a second, and Bethany Luchies a third.
