The first four months of 1993
°have been very eventful for the
local Cadets.
The biathlon' team competed in
the regional competition in Port
Elgin in January and made such an
impression that they went on to
place in the provincial Cadet finals
at CFB Petawawa.
The first aid team placed fourth in
another competition in April. The
squadron recently took part in an
exercise at CFB Ipperwash with 22
other area Air Cadet squadrons, the
Canadian Forces 411 Air Reserve
Squadron and the US Coast Guard.
Many Cadets . have barely
'recovered' from this experience
and they are off again, this time for
a joint exercise aboard the HMCS
Haida in Toronto, as guests of the
Welland Area Sea Cadets. The

decorating
contest
Several area children placed in
the winners' circle in a contest
sponsored by the Wingham and
District Hospital. In celebration of
Canada Health Day, area elemen-
tary students were invited to
decorate a tray cover to be used on
the food trays sent with patients'
meals in the hospital the week of
May 10 to 15.
The best three entries from each
class were then selected for 'an area
wide contest to determine the
overall winners for each grade. A
committee .of board members
completed the judging on May 4.

displayed in the hospital on May 12
and 13. All area schools have ben
invited to send classes of students
to tour the hospital and learn about
health care at Wingham and District
Hospital.
The public is also invited to tour
the hospital on May 12, between 10
a.m. and 415-a10.'

exercise is a complete immersion
into a sailor's life aboard a
Canadian naval fighting ship and a
hands on history lesson.
Flight Sgt. Janet Jackowski was
recently a flight crew member on a
Canadian Forces C-130 Hercules
transport plane that flew from CFB
Trenton to CFB Goose Bay,
Labrador and back.
April saw the swearing in of 12
new Cadets, including two foreign
exchange students staying in the
area. Six new corporals were
promoted and 35 became Leading
Air Cadets.
Six Cadets have been chosen to
take part in an 18 day exercise in
Bermuda starting June 25. They
are: Corporals Charlene Burgess,
Brad Montgomery, Mike Razo and
Jane Casler, and LAC Tenille
Cranston and Chris Grey.
Sgt. Andrew Oaks was selected
for a gliding scholarship, while
Corporals Crystal Brindley and
Shannon Finn are off to Whitehorse
in the Yukon for a band course.
LAC Michaela Johnson will also be
taking band course, but at CFB
Penhold, Alberta. Sgt. Sarah Buttee
was selected to attend a senior
leaders course at CFB Cold Lake,
Alberta.
Many more Cadets, most for the
first time, will be attending aircrew
survival and basic summer camps at
CFB Trenton, Ontario.
May will be spent making
preparations for the Cadet year's
main event - annual inspection: This
year dress rehearsal is at the Luck -
now Arena on June 3 and the
inspection on Saturday, June 5 in
Kincardine. The public is welcome
to view both events.
Good turn out at DES
bridge and euchre party
Approximately 90 people attended
the dessert bridge and euchre spon-
sored by the Huron Chapter 89,
Order of the Eastem Star, Win-
gham, on Apr, 28 at the Lucknow
Town Hall.
Bridge winners were: Arnetta
Thompson, high lady; Dave Moffat,
high man; second high Jean
Robertson and Brock Cleland.
Euchre winners were Helen
Casemore as high lady and Grant
Farrish and Gordon Brooks tied for
high man. High lady playing as a
man Norma Armstrong and Edna
Davis tied.
Other prizes were won by
Catherine McCormick, Jack
McDonald, Margaret McVittie,
Alex Robertson and Isabel Kil-
patrick.
Proceeds from the event go the
Eastern Star Awards for students in
Religious Leadership and given
through the Grand Chapter of the
Eastern Star of Ontario. Huron
Chapter has sent in the name of
Carol Ferguson, Amberley, to
receive one of these awards.
Maitland Valley Conservation Authority got the tree planting
underway to kick off Lucknow's Greenway Project on Saturday.
Residents were Invited to come out and help make Lucknow
greener. Getting into the dig of thing§ was Harvey Wightman,
Callan Clarke, Brian Roth of the Conservation Authority and
Albert Lennips in the background, as they planted these trees
