The May meeting of the Holyrood
Women's Institute was held on
Thursday afternoon at the home of
Bessie Maulden. Mary Scott
presided and welcomed ',those
present. After the usual opening
Joan Murray read the Minutes and
correspondence which included a
INLOUGH
letter from' Isabel Underwood of
Southampton explaining a guilt
project.
The rollcall was a WI meeting
that I enjoyed most
Delegates were appointed for the
Bruce South District meeting to be
held at Kincardine. Pennies for
friendship will be made up to $25.
The plans for a trip to the Blyth
theatre on the afternoon of August
5 were made.
Joan Murray read a poem on
Mother and How Mothers Day
came about.
The topic was on the Women's
Institute and Mrs. Murray, the
director, gave an excellent coverage
of the Institute from its beginning,
which was most interesting. The
motto was for Home and Country.
Two contests were enjoyed with
prizes going to May Boyle and
Beuy Bushell. Mary Scott gave, a
reading What is a Mother and Joan
Murray also gave -another reading
on Mother.
Mrs. Scott gave the Courtesies
and the meeting closed with 0
Canada, and Grace.
The June meeting will be a picnic
lunch in the hall and each member
is to bring one. "A joke, a friend and
the time of the dinner will be at 1
o' clock.
Getting ready for track and field day
The Grade 1's have had a busy
month practicing for track and field
with Mrs. Mayer in gym. They are
jumping and running over hurdles,
doing the long jump and ball
throwing. We are having a super
time at critter centres, using the
books written by Mercer Mayer to
create new adventures. Our "Cri-
tter" patch is full furry, stuffed
critters, too.
The Grade 1/2 class is working
wonderfully at spring things,
geometry and making beautiful salt
scapes for Mother's Day. 'Our
teachers are very prodd of the way
we are. working, listening and
playing nicely together.
Last week was the best week of
school when we had Starpower. We
learned how to solve conflicts at
home and at school. We would like
to have Starpower week again. The
stars of the week from our class to
get a certificate were Christine
Tabor and Sarah Morrison, but we
all worked hard to stop, think, act
and review. Thank -you to all the
`CPS INSIDER
parents that helped out. We are glad
the rats turned around to be stars.
(by Wyatt Kwan, Leanne Massena)
The Grade 4/5 class is recovering
from a very busy April. We certain-
ly enjoyed Starpower and we plan
to' continue to practice our new
problem solving strategies for the
rest of the year. We have started
new projects in class -instruction
booklets, individual novels, frac-
tions and decimals, and ' local
studies.
Our class would , like to
congratulate certain individuals for
their efforts. Valerie Weber at-
tended the Walkerton Music fes-
tival; Alicia Thacker and Amanda
Humphrey prepared projects for the
Science Fair. Alicia received a
trophy from the Ministry of Natural
Resources for her . presentation
