HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1993-05-12, Page 7Rubber duck race was big The 1st Lucknow • Scouts parent fundraising committee was thrilled by the community's response to all the Scout activities last Saturday. Between the yard sale, food booth, car wash and rubber duck race nearly $1,700 was raised to go towards the Canadian Jamboree '93 trip. Early in the day many folks made purchases at the yard sale. Throughout the morning and up to race time, people were lined up at the food booth. Over 40 vehicles were washed in front of the . fire hall. The grand finale of the day was the rubber duck race down the Kinloss Creek from the Gough Street bridge to the finish line at the Kinsmen ball park. Over 300 very generous people sponsored a duck for the race. The first duck over the finish line was sponsored by Sarah Mann who won the grand prize of $100. The following people won prizes that had been donated by local busines- ses: Dr. Mowbray, Cody Alton, Adrian Robert, Doug Hackett, John Bremner, David Parker, Corey Gibbons, Steve Chamney, Ralph Wyndham, Barb Ross, Barb Mur - success ray, Chad 'Mann, Ed and Greg Courtney, Marlene Havelan, Bill Gibson, R. Middleton, Helen Sande, Anne Van Diepenbeek, Holly Andrew, Tudor Wayne, John Uren, Marie Scott, Karen Bridges, Bruce Colwell, Susan Wyndham, James Mann, Anna Mae • Hunter, Doris Michler, . Grant Chisholm, J. Chester, Ruby MacLennan, John Kranenburg, Crystal Brindley, Ken Webster, Ralph. Voison. • With a large crowd on hand all day; and especially at race time, it was very evident that a fun and worthwhile day was had by all. After reading the final section on the project, a question and answer period followed. Members practiced the play for. the upcoming achievement. The Crazy Counters This club held its third and fourth meeting on May 2 at June Robin- son's home. Rollcall was to name your favorite color and tell why you like'. it The members voted on the club name. Discussion followed for an achievement program. Everyone will visit Pinecrest Nursing Home on June 25 to talk and display our finished projects to the residents. Happy Heritage Hunters The Trinity Happy Heritage Hunters met on May 6 at Janet Caesar's home. The members made Indian crafts, and two delicious recipes -' suc-- cotosh and wild rice soup. It Cool Consumers On May 8 the Port Albert 4-H Club met and riiccussed the events of the last meeting and we also discussed paying for items on credit and Dos and Don'ts of mail orders( through magazines. Unit prices were also discussed. We looked for the best prices in local flyers and found that the items that were cheaper in price and 25th Anniversary Mom&Dad (Dick and pixie Askes) May l& Love: Rick, Sharon, 'Heather and Trevor quality were advertised the most. An election was held to determine what the name of the club should be. •"Cool Consumers", got the most votes. All were present, but one • member and one leader • Lucknow Beef Club Members of the Lucknow Beef Club met on Apr. 28 at Rintoul's. They judged market steers and the seniors gave their reasons as well. Discussion took place on different 'ypes of lumbar.
