Beverley Thompson, of Lucknow,
is another local recipient of the
Commemorative Medal for the
125th Anniversary of Canadian
Confederation.
Mrs. Thompson received the
award for making a significant
contribution to Canada, her' com-
munity and fellow Canadians. She
has been a dedicated member of the
Girl Guide movement for well over
40 years, and previously received a
Medal of Merit in this respect.
The Canada 125 Medal is a
"reminder of the values of service,
individual respect, and community
effort on which Canada was built
and on which its quality of life will
always depend."
The presentation was made on
Apr. 29 at the Mapleway Area
annual meeting and dinner in
Mount Forest Sylvia Brady, Area
Commissioner, had the honor of
presenting Mrs. Thompson with the
medal.
In a later telephone interview,
Mrs. Brady spoke of her admiration
for Mrs. Thompson, saying, "She is
certainly -a person to pattern one's
self after."

OPP lay liquor offence
charge against 17 year old

been charged with having liquor
while under 19 on May 7 at 9:40
p.m in Point Clark The OPP were
investigating a report of a party in
the area when they saw the youth
and seized liquor and beer from
him.
The ministry of transportation
found a silver 10 speed bicycle on
Highway 9 near Highway 21 and
have turned it over to the OPP. If it
can be identified, it can be claimed
at the Kincardine detachment. The
bicycle was found on May 6.
On May 8, a part bottle of beer
was seized from a 19 -year-old
Kincardine pedestrian while the
officers were on patrol in
InverHuron. •
OPP are waiting for a description
of a lawnmower reported stolen on
May 8. The theft occurred from a
shed at a cottage on Huron Road in
Point Clark between Apr. 9 and
Apr. 28.
The owner, from Waterloo did not
have the make and mddel of the ,
lawnmower at the time of reporting
the incident.
Bruce Presbytery met here
Rev. David Maxwell chaired the
April meeting of the Bruce Pres-
bytery held at the Lucknow United
Church. He continued on the theme
authority and interpretation of scrip-
ture. .
Virginia Coleman, the Hamilton
Conference executive secretary,
outlined the new format of the
upcoming annual meeting stating
that "we shall be led in 'open space
technology' by a professional
facilitator.
Joyce Boyd, president of the
Hamilton Conference, spoke about
Christian development and con-
ference concerns. Mrs. Boyd
explained the stages of Christian
development by relating humans'
feelings and beliefs to .Various -
`blankets'. Examples included a
baby blanket as it relates to depen-
dence on warmth and en-
couragement. Some blankets
provide color and beauty but are
not as warm and protective. Old
worn blankets make us comfortable.
The modem, earthly blanket of
God's love invites us to love each
other, the world and ourselves.
Lewis Coffman,. accompanied by
Betty Ritchie at the piano, led in a
time of singing and prayer after.
lunch. The various divisions
reported on related business and
upcoming workshops and events.
The Long Range Planning Com-
mittee presented an interim report,.
noting responses from cluster group
meetings among small membership
charges, including community of
faith, sharing, commitment,
tradition, limitations, financial pres-
sures, to name a few.
The court agreed to proposed.
changes to the manual through
voting on remits concerning the lay
membership of Presbytery, the
membership of Presbytery and
Conference, the Candidacy process,
and Covenanting. The responses
will be forwarded to General Coun-

to be nominated; two of which
had to be female.
Making the trip will be Dan
Pearson,.Murray Cardiff's Brus-
sels constituency office assistant
for the past 13 years; Belmore
resident Ted Weishar; Jamie
Armstrong of Teeswater;. Mary
Proctor of Belgrave and Terra
Ahrens from Exeter. Senior
alternates are Kincardine's Gary
Gerbin, Ross Proctor of
Belgrave, John Schenk, and
Yvonne Trapp, both of Win-
gham.
While only the youth delegates
voiced any particular candidate
support, it seemed like a lot' of
people were talking about Kim
Campbell; although members
from the Perth Riding As-
sociation attended to rally sup-.
port for Alberta MP Jim Ed-
wards. Both Mr. Steep and Ms.
Trapp offered 'up their Campbell
position, as did Ahrens - who
was defeated for
a
youth
delegate position, but was ac-
claimed in the senior grouping as
a woman delegate.
Meanwhile, Huron -Bruce MP
Murray Cardiff is in an Ottawa
hospital following a gallbladder
attack in Rome, Italy. Cardiff
will remain in the National
defence Medical Centre for a
few more days.
