Brookside's primary grades enjoy trip

Primary News
Mrs. Cameron's Kindergarten A
class made lots of crafts and pain-
ting for Easter. On Apr. 23 both
kindergartens and Mrs. Hodsman's
Grade 1 class travelled to the circus
in London. Before they went to the
circus they learned about the circus
animals and activities. They are
also " doing an "All About Me"
program, and are learning their
telephone numbers, addresses, and
birthdays.
Mrs. McMillen's Kindergarten B
classroom has turned into a big
circus tent. On Apr 29 Mrs. McMil-
len's and Mrs. Hodsman's classes
celebrated Clown Day. They have
also been busy learning new
sounds, and playing lots of games
with these sounds.
Mrs. Hodsman's Grade 1's made
clown hair, bibs, and clown shoes.
They enjoyed the circus in London,
and wrote terrific clown stories.
Miss Roberts and Miss Anguish's
Grade 1/2 class celebrated Earth
Day, by making "Junk Creatures".
They also planted beans, and are in
the process of making'a egg mural.
In math the kids are learning to add
and subtract up to 100, and are
starting regrouping and working
with money.
Mrs. Baker and Miss Wise are
studying whales, sharks, and the
environment, and they . have raised

The next meeting is June 28.

bers are very welcome.
BROOKSIDE BROADCAST
Mrs. Tebbuu's Grade 3/4 class is
now and official member of the
Toronto Blue Jays' Fan Club! They
anticipate receiving information in
the form of a monthly newsletter.
They are also able to write a player
directly as they have received the
appropriate address.
The class really enjoyed Mrs.
Baker's presentation on New-
foundland. She introduced our new
unit of study by discussing her
childhood days in our most easterly
of provinces.
Mr. Culp's class is eagerly fol-
lowing the playoffs. Hockey has
taken over with a tabletop com-
petition requiring a high degree of
hand toeye coordination. Other
activities will be hockey cards,
statistics, the penalty box, and
favorite story, "The Hockey
Sweater". -
Intermediate news
Mrs. Dozois' Grade 6/1 class has
been busy this month, especially the
actors involved in the Oliver con-
cert production! The Grade 6's are
going to be starting a Library novel
study unit, and they will also be
studying soil in science. The. Grade
7's are doing fractions in math and
science experiments in science, the
history of nature all around us, and
they are working on climate and
weather.
Miss. Morton's class is very, very
busy also with the Oliver play
because Miss. Morton is the direc-
tor. They are also working on
fractions in math and climate and
weather in geography.
Mr. Hazlitt's class is answering
comprehension questions ,and
completing a novel study.
Special events
Congratulations to the senior boys
and girls for how well they played
in the basketball tournament.
Grade 8 has had their graduation
pictures taken and will receive them
in May. Also the Grade 8's plan to
go to Toronto on May 6 and 7.
They will see "Joseph and The
Technicolor Dreamcoat" at. the
Elgin Theatre and visit some
museums.
The Social Science Fair was very
well done. The students put lot of
effort into it. Our spring concert
was based on a story by Charles
Dickens. It was the musical
"Oliver" with Oliver played by
Nathan Ferguson.
The primary/junior divisions held
ari Earth Day program on Apr. 22.
After wonderful folk songs by
Joanne Durst and a beautiful "Spirit
Dance" by Anita Holmes-Mitra,
students rotated through environ-
mental workshops. Thanks also to
Helen Crocker from the Board and
Jocelyn de Boer for their help!

Junior News
Mr. Lobb's class has been
preparing for the Oliver musical on
May 4. They have had a quiz on
ancient Greek and watched a film
on Alexander the Great. They are
starting a new unit on decimals and
fractions. The kids had lots of fun
going around to the different
centres on earth day.
Mrs. Worsell's Grade 5/6 class
has finished their centres on En-
dangered Species. They are • also
looking forward to their trip to
Standish, Michigan on May 10, 11,
12 to meet their penpals. Their
Standish friends will return on May
17, 1$, 19 to visit this community.

Lloyd Koch, CEO of the hospital,
brought greetings and commended
the auxiliary members on their
services. Mr. Koch commented that
the auxiliary's services such as the
book cart, gift case, emergency
desk admissions and the cancer
clinic are all services vital to the
hospital. The cancer clinic provides
the continuity of care, a major role
of the hospital. Mr. Koch also men-
tioned that the blood donor clinic is
a valuable service and important to
the hospital in emergencies.
The auxiliary was brought up-to-
date on the activities of the hospital
which includes the , issue of the
formation of a District Health
Council. Huron and Perth Counties
are the only areas. without one at
the present time. Mr. Koch also
explained that the hospital is hoping
to get an extension of funding for
