Plans are being made to hold the
4 second annual yard and sidewalk
sale Saturday, May 22 beginning at
8 a.m. Spaces will be available for
out of town participants. More
details will follow.
Just a reminder to business
owners, the next meeting will be
May 18 at 8 p.m. at the Ripley
Legion Hall. Attendance would be
appreciated. For more information
call LeeAnn at 395-5057.
Ripley and District Horticultural
Society
The Ripley and District Horticul-
tural meeting was held on Apr. 20
at Gail vanderHoek's. President
Wilda Thompson welcomed the
ladies. The planting of the flower
beds was discussed, a lot of work
needs to be done at the cemetery.
A small bed is t� planted around
the flagpole on the Ripley Post
Office lawn.
The flower show will be held on
May 11; opening, at 2 p.m. Fran
Farrell and Fail vanderHoek report-
ed that the grade 6/7 science stu-
dents in Miss Grubb's room are
quite interested in placing their
entries in the show. They have
started marigolds and African
Violets.
The society will again have a
bake table at the May Craft Show.
A car load of participants will be
attending the District Annual meet-
ing in Hensall on May 1. Edith
Smith introduced the guest speaker,
Mrs. Joan Martin, from Lucknow.
Joan grows many flowers and
brought a variety of them for every-
one to see.
She talked about "Colour in your
garden" which put the ladies in the
mood for spring planting. She told
them how to co-ordinate colours in
planting for the best effect. She,
recommended growing Canterberry
Bells, herbs, Rose of Sharon,
Poppies, Shasta Daisy and many
others. After Marie Colling
thanked the . speaker and hostess,
refreshments were served.
Liddle's Family Restaurant
Carolyn and Courtney Liddle will
be busy this week as they are open-
ing the "Liddle's Family Restaurant
and Lounge" for take-out. Every-
one is anxiously, waiting for the
doors to open and are wishing the
proprietors the best of luck.
The new establishment is opposite -
the Ripley District School and still

of the building.
Summer recreation
Ripley minor softball, baseball,
and soccer are about to begin for
another season. Registration is pow
complete, but it is not too late to
still register (late fee charge). Just
call 395-4004.
Soccer will have four teams this
season. There .will be two Tyke
. teams, one Squirt team and one
Atom team. The program will
begin mid-May. Players will be
contacted by their coaches.
Minor softball will also start mid-
May .with the regular playing sea -

son beginning at the end of the
month, There was an excellent
turnout this year with girl's teams
from Mite -to Junior and two Mite
boys teams. The Midget girls team
still required a coach. If interested
call 395-4004.
Minor baseball has started their
practices. There will be two Mos-
quito boys teams, two Peewee
teams, and for the first time a Ban-
tam boys team. The Bantam team
still requires a coach. The Mos-
quito and PeeWee teams will be
divided into an "A" competitive
team, and a "B" development team.
Both teams will play in a travel
league beginning in two weeks.
If you wish to volunteer to help
with any team, or for more infor-
mation, contact the Recreation
Office at 395-4004 and ask for

Earl Heywood, Wingham, was presented with his Canada 125
medal by Paul Klopp, Huron MPP. In his profession and
personal life, Mr. Heywood, has been a moving force In the
country music life of southwestern Ontario. While he Is an
internationally known singer and songwriter, he has worked
diligently for many years to organize local events which would
promote the arts. He was Instrumental in organizing the
Dundalk Square Dance Festival, the Blyth Steam Show, Fiddle
and Step Dance Contest,and continues to volunteer his time
and talent to worthy causes. His latest project to promote the
music of southwestern Ontario is a proposed "Bam Dance Hall
of Fame and Museum of Music of Southwestern Ontario" in
Wingham. Knowing his determination and commitment, it will
