Arthritis volunteers receive service pins
The Lucknow and District
Arthritis Society held a pot luck
lunch and meeting on Apr. 21 at the
Legion Hall.
Mary Guse, Bluewater Region
Area Coordinator, congratulated the
Society for their success, once
again, with collecting $5400 in the
1992 campaign. Again this was
higher than the previous year.
Congratulations to President Jean
Whitby, treasurer Catherine Andrew
and the many volunteers who help
year after year.
Fifteen year pins were presented
to Ruth Thompson, Pearl Menary,
Betty Smith, Maudie Fisher, Irene
Haldenby and Sarah Ritchie. A 10 -
year pin was presented to Leona
Boyle.
Guest speaker, physiotherapist
Susan Pym was very interesting as
she told us about her work.
Centered in Port Elgin she covers a
large area including Lucknow. She
says working with people in their
homes is most satisfactory. She
stressed the importance of education
in the type of arthritis suffered and
the side effects.
Ms. Pym said that adjusting
features in the home tomake things
easier, helping arthritis suffers to
share work and schedule rest times
is very important, as is teaching
proper posture and the right type of
shoes to wear.
Arthritis sufferers must learn to
modify their lifestyle. Ms. Pym's
job's basic goal is to help people to
cope. She showed the many items
now available to help as well as
books.
Mrs. Whitby expressed thanks to
all for coming and to those who
helped throughout the past year.
Volunteers with the local chapter of the Arthritis Society were honored for their years of service
at a banquet last week when they were presented with pins. In the back row (left) Leona Boyle
received a 10 -year pin, while Betty Smith,Sarah Ritchie and Irene Haldenby received 15 -year
