North Huron Vet Club
The North Huron Vet Club held
its second meeting on Apr. 22 at
the Blyth Vet Clinic.
Lavern Clark showed members
the respiratory system of a dog and
pointed out the different parts of it.
He talked about noses and the sense
of smell. He said if an animal can't
smell then it won't eat or it eats
very little.
Phil and Lavern also took us out
back to look at the respiratory sys-
tems of calves and talked about
other internal parts.
For the Love of Horses
On Monday, Apr. 12, a special
meeting for additional members of
this club took place at Amy Alton's

discussing the advantages and
disadvantages of stabling your horse
indoors and outdoors.
The three new members are Crys-
tal Fyn, Tom and Mark VanDiepen-
beek,
At.the Apr. 24 meeting, members
took a trip to Sunbridge Heights
Arabian S tables in Arva.
Questionnaires were filled out as
the group toured all three. barns,
looked over the horses and watched
a horse sale.
During lunch at McDonalds the
meeting was held and the trip
reviewed. .
Members were given cutouts and
must design their own stable plan.
The next meeting is May 20 at
Jenny Storer's place at 7 p.m. sharp
when members will judge horses.
Lucknow Beet Club
The first meeting of the Lucknow
4-11 Beef Club was held on Apr. 14
upstairs in the arena.
Officers were elected as follows:
president Keith Todd, vice Scott
Rintoul, secretary Heather Alton,
treasurer Mac Hackett, press report
Denise Black, fundraising commit-
tee Rob Thompson, Doug Helm,
and Mac Hackett.
The group discussed fundraising
ideas for the club and watched a
video called Starting Cattle. This
year's project is about housing and
equipment.
Dairy Calf Club
The second meeting of the Luck -
now Dairy Calf Club was held at
Simone Bleeker's on Apr. 20, when
upcoming events were discussed.
Working in groups, members
discussed the pros and cons of the
calf hut, natural ventilation and
thermostat ventilation. Next came
the pros and cons of a free stall
barn and a tie stall barn.
Three groups of barley were
judged.
Farmer's wishing to apply pgs-
ticides to another farmer's field
must be enrolled as a custom
sprayer with the Ministry of En-
vironment and Energy (MOEE).
Only certified agriculturalists
(farmers who have a Grower Pes-
ticide Safety Course certificate) can
become a custom sprayer.
A custom sprayer is defined by
Regulation 914, section 95 (1) as a
certified agriculturalist who holds a
valid certificate enrolment issued by
the director under the Pesticide Act
and applies pesticides on farm land,
not owned/operated by him-
self/herself. This can be done as
long as only one piece of pesticide
application equipment, which is

baby Kloe Smolenaars

Lucknow woman dies while
out for daily walk
The body of an 82 -year-old
woman fromLucknow was found.at
the side of Gough Road on Apr- 25.
Two women were walking along
the road when a motorist stopped to
tell them there was a woman lying
on the road ahead.
The two , women, one who is a
registered nurse, found the woman
and the nurse began CPR while an
ambulance was summoned
The . woman was taken to a
Wingham hospital where she was
pronounced dead.
"There were no signs. of foul
play," said Staff Sergeant Neville,
of the Kincardine OPP.
The woman died 'of natural
causes.
"Apparently this woman goes for
a walk every day," he said
The Paisley Snowdnfters Club
House was broken into during the
past two weeks on Side Road 35 in
Bruce Township. Members of the
club reported the incident to the
OPP on Apr. 20.
All the windows had been
smashed, the wood stove was dam-
aged, florescent bulbs- were
smashed and furniture and raffle
tickets had been thrown around.
Four break and enters were dis-
covered on Apr. 19 on Boiler
Beach Road.
A person reported one of the
break and enters and officers
attended, discovering three others.
Staff Sergeant Neville said they
are waiting for the cottage owners
to return to determine if anything
was stolen although a microwave
has been reported stolen from one
of the cottages.
A 46 -year-old Tiverton man was
charged for failing to stop after an
accident at the intersection of Con-
cession 2 and the J -Side Road in
Bruce Township.
The man struck a vehicle
travelling east on Concession 2,
knocking ii -into' a ditch where it
rolled over..
The 46 -year-old Saugeen Town-
ship woman was injured and• was
taken to Kincardine and District
General Hospital. The other driver
was not hurt. .
On Apr. 22 at 6:42 p.m. OPP
conducted a RIDE check on High-
way 9' at County Road 7 and
observed a vehicle, weaving back
and forth. The driver was arrested
for impaired driving and returned to
the detachment where he failed a
breathalyser exam. The 58 -year-old
RR4 Kincardine man was charged
with having more than 80 mg of
alcohol in his system .and with
impaired driving.
On Apr. 23 at 1:30 a.m., a vehicle
was__stooned in__Lucknow for a
traffic violation and ripen liquor
was found. As a result, a 19 -year -
.old Teeswater man has .been
charged with driving with liquor
readily available.
At 12:20 a.m. that night a vehicle
was stopped in Kinloss Township
and liquor was found in the vehicle.
A`42 -year-old Holyrood man was
charged with driving with liquor
readily available.
On Apr. 23 OPP conducted a
RIDE check on Side Road 30 and
Concession 6 of Kinloss Township,
From that check a 34 -year-old
Teeswater area man and a 31 -year-
old Walkerton area man were
charged in separate incidents of
driving with liquor readily avail-
able.
At the same check, a 17 -year-old
Teeswater youth was charged with
being under 19 and having liquor.'
On Apr. 24 OPP conducted a
RIDE check at the Side Road 30
location and charged a 41 -year-old
Wingham area man, a 32 -year-old
Barrie man and a 19 -year-old Wat-
erloo man with driving with liquor
readily available.
