WI meeting
The April meeting of the Luck -
Aow Women's Institute was held
pr. 13 with 17 members attending.
A pot luck 'lunch was served fol-
lowed by the regular meeting,
President Mabel Whitby read a
poem followed by the minutes and
correspondence by Beean
Ritchie. Rita Gilmore gave Nile
financial report. Rollcall was the.
payment of fees for the coming
year.
The annual meeting was held with
the financial report and committee
-reports being received.
Mabel Whitby, the outgoing
president, thanked everyone for
their help and support the past year.
Rita Gilmore, Mabel Whitby and
Bemadean Ritchie each gave a
humorous reading. -
Kairshea WI
holds annual
meeting
Kinloss Kairshea Women's
Institute met for their annual
meeting on Apr. 15 at 11 a.m.
Sharon MacDougall was hostess
and Maimie Roulston presided. She
opened with a legend by J.
Reginald Burchill and a short
reading on Poison Ivy.
Following the usual opening the -
lousiness was dealt with. The
Institute decided to sponsor an
essay competition with prize money
of $15, $.10 and $5 for the top three
winners,
Committees were appointed to
handle the fond booth and dinner at
the Craft Festival and the Lucknow
Fall Fair display.
Donna McBride had a scrambled
word .contest with answers being
the names of things we see as we
look out our window in spring.
Each member took a bag lunch
and the hostess, assisted, by Mrs.
McBride served relishes, tea, coffee
and dessert.
Rollcall was answered by 18
members with the payment of fees.
The annual tni;inutes and
treasurer's report were received.
Una Matthews gave the curator's
report, Alleve Bradley the PRO
report, and Irene Haldenby the
program coordinator's report.
June Gilchrist inducted the fol-
lowing new officers: past president

Mae MacDougall . as assistant,

Mrs. Ritchie, the new president,
gave a few remarks and outlined
some plans for the coming year.

In reply to a letter from the
Ministry ' of Transportation regar-
ding the replacement of a portion of
two culverts on Highway 86, coun-
cil's response is that closing
Sideroad 15-16 at Highway 86, as
suggested by MTO is not feasible.
Reeve Robert ' Hallam will
represent the municipality at a joint
meeting to be held,with the Police
Village of Auburn trustees, and
representatives from the Townships
of East Wawanosh and Hallett: The
meeting will address the need and
method of sorting/recycling waste
collected in Auburn.
---Council-agreed-to-a-letter of -sup-- -
port being composed for. Steve
Owen in his effort to obtain a
licence to operate a small used car
business.
The clerk was authorized to for-
ward a Letter of Tolerance to
solicitor Thomas J. Troyan regar-
ding a dilapidated shed at St.
Helens which elttends 3/10ths of a
foot onto the road allowance of
Mary Anne Street.
The clerk will . attend the annual
meeting and conference of AMCT
to be held in London in June.
Council voted unanimously to pay
the $83.80 registration for Jane
Cere, the assistant to the clerk, to
enrol in the first unit of the
Municipal Administration Course in
Brussels.
Joe Gibson was appointed as the
township's weed inspector.
Council passed a bylaw
authorizing entering into a road user
agreement with Northern Cross
Resources for a gas pipe line instal-
lation.
Council's annual road tour will
take place on' Apr. 23, after which
business not dealt with at the
regular meeting will be addressed.
