Peter Hannam, Chairman of the Agricultural Leadership Trust, an- nounced the new program last week in Guelph. "We are looking throughout. Ontario for men and women with leadership potential and a commitment to agriculture", said Hannam. "They can be fanners, agri-business employees, food processors, wholesalers or retailers, bankers, educators, jour- ARM REPORT ■ Bruce County OMAF . nalists, or others with an interest in the agri-food industry." The program, which will run from September 1993 to April 1995, consists of nine three-day seminars held in different Ontario locations, plus two weeks of study travel in North America and an international study travel experience. Study topics include com- munication and organization skills, decision-making and issue analysis, government systems, trade and marketing, consumer and environ- mental issues. The Advanced Agricultural Leadership Program is run by the Agricultural Leadership Trust, a unique partnership of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Foundation for rural Living and University of Guelph. Funding comes from tuition fees, donations from agri-food businesses and or- ganizations, and the partners' in the Trust. Application deadline is May 15, 1993. Paisley junior farmer will go to Ireland Seventeen Junior Farmer ambas- sadors will he off and travelling in the next few months on interprovin- cial and international exchanges. The exciting announcement of the trip winners was made Mar. 20 at the Annual Banquet. of the Junior Farmers' Association of Ontario (JFAO) in London. Interprovincial trip winners include Neil Robinson, University of, Guelph (originally Stormont); Jennifer Cross, Prescott County; and Ruth Ann McIntosh, Perth County who will be attending the Great Lakes Leadership Lab. As well Fred Slemon of Durham East and Denise Greg of Carlton will be travelling to Manitoba. Travelling to Alberta will be Andrew Wilson of Halton County and Janet Zandbelt of Wellington County (originally Dundas County) and visiting Prince Edward island will be Jennie Elg of Perth County. Travelling to Australia and New Zealand for six months will be Nancy Charlton, University of Guelph (originally Brant) and Cindy McCutcheon also from the Univer- sity of Guelph (originally Grey). Ruth Lyons of Durham West; Joanne Hewitson of Halton (originally Grey); Carolyn Wren of Renfrew, and Murray Shaw of Lambton will be spending three months in the United Kingdom. Visiting the Republic of Ireland for one month will be Jennifer, Hyland, University of Guelph (originally Carlton) and .Stephen► Caldwell, Bruce County. As well, Andreas Jampen of Dundas County will be in Germany for one month. Exchangees will have the oppor- tunit to live with families from their host provinces and countries, seeing and experiencing the culture first hand. They will also be able to learn about the agricultural systems of their hosts and bring the infor- mation home as well as experience other rural youth organizations similar to the Junior Farmers' As- sociation of Ontario. The winners are all top calibre JFers, according to the judges who spent hours interviewing applicants and, for the internatidnal trip win- ners, evaluating their public speaking skills and their knowledge of Canada, current events and the agricultural industry. "They will all be excellent ambassadors for this Association and will each profit personally from their experiences", said one of the judges following the announcement. JFAO trips are a long-standing tradition in the Association and are made possible by the many spon- sors, without whose contributions these travel opportunities would not be possible. Trivia Q.
