For the past few years, we have been able to set our April clocks by the re -opening of the studio. It is with mixed feelings that the villagers say "so long". We will miss this ad- dition to our main street and the draw to our community that the studio brought. On the other hand„we are thrilled for Debbie. She has outgrown her little studio and has found it neces- sary to move into larger quarters, which in this case, happens to be her home. This move gives her not only badly needed space for her lessons, but more time to con- centrate on her own painting and art shows. We wish her all the best in this endeavor, A good crowd was in attendance for the pancake breakfast held in the Dungannon United Church on Saturday, Apr. 3. On the menu were pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages and, of course, lots of fresh maple syrup. Five door prizes were drawn for during the' morning. A hand -sewn WNW DUNGANNON by Sandra D'Aoust amiwimonemsoil' mmo Easter bunny was won by Gerdy Potzel, a gift certificate from the Exclusively For You Hair ,Salon (Sylvia Nadasdy-Miehm) by Cecil Cranston, a silk floral arrangement with an Easter Bunny by Lynn Irvin, an Easter lily by Harold Errington and a one pound chocolate bunny by Barb Smyth. This event was sponsored by our Board of Stewards who were very pleased with the support of the community in attendance at this event. They have reassured me that if you enjoyed the pancake breakfast you'll just love the ham and turkey supper on Apr. 25. Seniors news Nine tables were filled for the weekly euchre party on Wednesday, Mar. 31 at the Seniors' Hall. The winners' circle was filledto capacity. Congratulations to Helen Russell, Marie Park, Mable Lamont, Dick Eisler, George Cardiff and Lucknow's share is $7,600 •from page 5 ting and unable to pay taxes,” he said. Walkerton's arrears rose from $371,000 to $415,000 in the same period. Commenting on the budget, chair Bill Zettel said "anything we have control over is at 0 per cent. The.. big increases are accounted for in Legislated areas we don't have control over." "I'm quite happy with the budget we have there," he added. "I think we did a fine job." Director Joe Waters said every item was "examined, turned over and examined again" before it was finalized in the budget. One place the board was able to cut costs was transportation. That was partly thanks to a sudden five per cent across -the -province cut in busing grants, but also to efforts to share Coutes with the Bruce and Grey County boards. The three boards recently got a $182,000 grant to computerize their route schedules in hopes of finding even more savings. While the director and chair were pleased with the 1993 budget, Serre gave a warning about the future. He credits the board with using long- term planning to limit its budget and borrowing costs; but said the province may be faced with hand- ing out even more grant cuts in the years to come. "It's good for '93, but I'm very concerned about '94," Serre said. "It looks as if the (province's) problem is even greater than anyone thinks. There may be need for further (grant) reductions." Board figures show that Walker- ton will pay $689,067 toward the total local requisition, while Hanoverratepayers will contribute $425,004; Port Elgin $254,654; Kincardine $288,119; Southampton $215,441 and Lucknow $7,659. Roy Burchill. Church news Palm Sunday was celebrated in the Dungannon United Church this. past Sunday, under the leadership of Rev. Garth Bogart, Barbara Bosman of Londesborough was guest organist. During the singing of the opening hymn, the children of the Sunday School, along with their teachers, entered the sanctuary waving palm branches to celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. The sermon text was taken from « Matthew 27, verses 11-54 which tell of the trial and crucifixion of Jesus, who was truly not guilty of any wrong doing but was sentenced to death anyway. He died on the cross for our sins and to give us life eternal in Him. An ecumenical Good Friday Ser- vice is being held at Lucknow Presbyterian Church on Apr. 9 at 7:30 p.m. All four churches within the Dungannon Union Pastoral Charge are invited to join in this service.
