HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1993-04-07, Page 3Checking out sewage budget overrun Mark Bell and Gerry Montag, representatives of the Ministry of Environment, along with Harold Nicholson attended the March meeting of Lucknow council. A discussion took place regarding the reasons for the overrun of the 1992 sewage operating budget and the proposed 1993 sewage operating precept and budget figures. Mr. Bell will prepare a list of the deficiencies and extra charges which caused the overrun. OPP Constable Andy Burgess and Sgt. .Neville talked with council about the office space provided to the detachment, and upgrading of the space.. Jean Whitby, on behalf of the" Horticultural Society, pointed out sub -standard conditions at the Waterworks Park. Council agreed to look into the matter. Rick Arsenault and Dave Vannat- to, of Huron and Bruce Machinery presented a proposal to council, accompanied by a list of supporting names, to operate a retail machine shop at 579 Campbell Street. Dis- cussion took place regarding the CVillage of Lucknow OUNCIL NEWS operation in a Cl (commercial) Zone. Council subsequently agreed to: the rebuilding with machining and fabricating, for resale of used metal and woodworking equipment; and the sale of new equipment and accessories. Conditions that were attached to the motion were: that the situation would be reviewed in six months; that all Cl provisions would apply (the main one being no outside storage); that off street parking be made available for employees; and that hours of work be within the time frame of 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Permission was given to the Kinsmen to host Summerfest in June, and to the Old Devils Hockey team (subject to certain conditions being met) to hold a slo pitch tour- nament in July, subject to certain conditions being met. Council approved the proposed operating and capital budget for the Mid -Huron Landfill site .in the amount of $9867 as the village's share for operating and $26,509 as its share of capital expenses. The Ministry of Transportation Ontario allocation for 1993 is $48,500 for construction and $33,000 for maintenance. Spots .killdeer Nellie McCauley of Kinloss has witnessed the unusually early ar- rival of two Killdeer. Last week they laid claim to a spot on her lawn for two days. Who are these guys? If you were one of the approximate 560 people at the Community Centre on Saturday evening, you will recognize them as Yuk Yuk's "wild, wacky and wonderful" entertainers. For two hours they kept the sold -out crowd laughing and begging for more. The show was sponsored by the Lucknow and District Kinsmen, with proceeds ear- marked for community betterment projects.
