More than 25 per cent of Ontario's poor households are supported by full or part-time' jobs. The conclusion about the residen- tial property tax was that it was a regressive tax. On average, taxes decline as a percentage of household incomes as household income increases. In Ontario there is not a standard system of as- sessment. This makes it difficult for the property tax payer to understand how it works or compare as- sessment. It frustrates any attempt to be fair. The next hearing of the Fair Tax Commission is in London at the Sheraton Armouries Hotel on •Apr. 13. The goal for the Commission is to find out how fairness can be achieved in .the tax system. The public • is encouraged to make presentations or attend the meeting. If you can not attend please write a letter.
