Studies Prove
Maintaining
Advertising is
Good for Bus iness:
A
study on the Profit Impact
of Marketing Strategy said
that companies that
advertised "much less" in a
recession received a 1 7%
rate of return on advertising,
while the. companies that
advertised "much more" had
a 32% rate of return. The
study goes on to .say that
companies that advertised
"much less" ended up with a
20% market share, While the
"much mare" campdn i_es had
a 43% market share.
Another study was done by
McGraw-Hill of New York.
They tracked the advertising
and sales of companies
during the mini recession of
74/75, and the recession of
81/82. Companies that cut
back and then restored
advertising during
74/75,had a sales increase of
79% over the next five years,
while companies that
maintained their advertising
had a sales increase of 132%
over the same period. During
the recession of 81/82,
companies that cut back had
a 19% sales increase over the
next five years, while those
who maintained oreven
increased their advertising
had a 275% increase over the
same period. It was
concluded that companies
who maintained advertising
during a recession came out
with a larger increase in sales
percentage and a larger
market share than those who
cut ba&k and "lost
momentum." Short term
cutbacks hurt long term
profits.
Put your advertising to work in the
community newspaper that
r ally cares about you.

The Lucknow Pee Wee house

lIn the second period, Chesley
scored again to lead by two.
'Having been robbed twice
before, Lucknow's Daryl
Aitchison made good on a break -
a -way to putthe team on the
scoreboard. This was just the
charge needed.
Sixteen seconds later, T.J.
Clough found his spot between
the Chesley pipes to tie the score
at two each. With one minute
left to go in the second,
Aitchison put another home
unassisted to take the lead.
In the third period, Chesley
came on strong, but Lucknow

a strong game with good passing
and checking plays. la s. With 20
seconds remaining in the game,
Shane Petteplace and J.J.
Humphrey assaulted the Chesley
net and Aitchison poked in the
rebound to complete his hat trick
for the game.
It was a great game and you
