The Lucknow Sentinel, 1993-03-31, Page 5Says minor hockey isn't fun for her son To the editor: Minor hockey for funs I don't think sol I was under the impression that you played sports for the fun and not just to win. Apparently this is not the case in Lucknoiv, as I am finding out, especially when you get into •the older teams. The first chance my son had to play hockey was at age six. He played for one year. Unfortunately I was forced to work several jobs (including evenings) and' could not find the time or anyone who was able .to take him to his games or practises and this meant his hockey career came to an end until Pee Wee, when he was able to start again. y TO THE EDITOR immommonmelonsm They had no one for the net so he decided to give it a try, and dis- covered that he really enjoyed it. He has worked hard in the last four years by going to hockey, camp in an effort to improve. He never missed a game or a practise in all those four years unless it was can- celled. Now all of a sudden he is not being asked to play most games because he is not a "number one goalie." 1 see no fairness in this at all. Writer is searching for family To the editor: I am writing to your newspaper with the hope that some of your readers might be able to provide me with some information. My name is Robert Michael "Bob" Hayes. For a number of years I have been researching on the histories of a number of branches of my family. One of these families bore the surname LITTLE. One of my great great grandmothers . was named Martha Little. She was born in County Armagh, Ireland in 1807, came to Canada with her parents and siblings in 1832, and settled near Port Hope, Ontario. I have recently learned that a brother of Martha Little, Joseph Little (born about 1821) settled at CAR & TRUCK SERVICE COMPLETE EXHAUST REPAIRS FOR ANY CAR OR TRUCK In shop pipe bender for custom exhaust systems • Dual Exhaust Systems - from the manifold •- approx. $350. • Antique Car exhaust repairs or replacement • Shuttleworth truck mufflers • Muffler Pipe for auto and 'truck - all sizes from 1 1/2" x 5" • Flex pipe 3", 4", 5". • Elbows 90°, & 45°,.3" X 5" ••• BATTERIES automobile - truck - tractor GAS TANKS for most cars or vans $150 - $180 installed UNDERCOATING Dripless undercoating for cars - $,40; vans and pickups - $45. For a number of years Mr. Little owned and operated a shoe and boot making business in Lucknow. Eventually this business was taken over by his sons, William J. and John H. Little. William J. Little was still operating the family business as late as 1912, the year in which Joseph Little died (December 5, 1912), at L.,ucknow. Other children included a son Thomas W. Little and daughters Martha, Sarah and Mary. I am wondering if any of your readers have any knowledge at all about Mr. Joseph Little, his family, or' business. I am most anxious to learn more about this branch of the Little family, and I would be grateful for any information which your readers might be able to He is a good student and doesn't give,me any hassles. Playing hock- ey is keeping him from running the streets with nothing to do: How would you or your child feel if the coach told them that they were going with their number.one players as much as, possible and he or she would be left on the sidelines? My son has been asked to participate in four games all season. He has lost all interest in even going to prac- tises. I feel this is very cruel, so come on parents and coaches, this is not the N.H.L. and the name of the game should be FUN. A Concerned Parent Bev Ohm Dungannon information provide. Any and all information would certainly be welcome. Wingham and Area Seniors Day Centre Klopp's perspective on low income tax myths by Paul Klopp, MPP Huron The budget crunch has caused all of us to look at ways government expenditures can be reduced and how revenue can be raised. An article in the papers this week said the taxes for the Canadian taxpayer increased 25 per cent in the Last decade. No one like to pay taxes. In order to make taxes more fair we must find out how well the tax system works. This government has had a Commission look at all taxes with the goal of making our tax system more fair. Recent reports on property taxes and taxes on low income wage earners by The Ontario Fair Tax Commission have documented what „ a lot of us had suspected. It found that the low-income people carry an unfair tax burden. In 1991, an individual earning as little as $6,532 had to pay federal income tax. In Ontario the point where individuals stared paying taxes was slightly higher at $8,477.
