HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1993-03-24, Page 15Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, March 24, 1993 — Page 15 • Listowel and Kincardine win Bantam tournament The Elaine Irwin Memorial Ban- tam Hockey Tournament got underway on Friday morning March 19 with a full day of exciting hock- ey for a steady crowd of fans. Lucknow faced off with Mildmay in thejirst game at 8:30 a.m. Luck - now team put-up a good effort with Tyler Brooks playing two strong periods to keep the game close. Mildmay's speed and determination. carried them to a 5 to 1 win. Luck- now's goal came off a shot by Lee Drennan from Kevin Rintoul, Players of the game went to Evan Wendt from Mildmay. In the second game of the tour- nament, Kincardine and Parkhill skated hard and played an exciting game withParkhill taking the win 6 to 2. Parkhill's Matthew deJong was picked as player of the game. In game three Exeter and Lis- towel battled throughout the game with Listowel squeaking out •the win by a 3 to 2 score. Player of game three was Dave Meulensteen of Listowel. Game four pitted Mt. Brydges against Port Elgin to finish the first round of competition. Mt. Brydges came out victorious with • a 6 to 3 win. Peter Corbeil was picked as player of the game. This. decided the participants in the consolation and championship round of play to continue. Lucknow and Kincardine faced off in game five of the day. The home town boys put up an excellent effort but couldn't pull out the win. Kincardine came through with a 2 to 1 win. Lucknow's goal was scored by Colin Becker on a booming shot from the 'point with assists going to Tyler Brooks and Lee Drennan. This game finished the season for the Lucknow boys so they will be back next year when the frost comes on the pumpkins. Player of game five was Mike Rock of Kin- cardine. The hard fought competition continued with Mildmay getting. 'past Parkhill in game six. Mildmay played hard with daz7ling goal tending to take the win 3 to 2. This also eliminated Parkhill from further play. Player of game six was Mark Huber of Mildmay. Game seven had Exeter and Port Elgin tangle in 'the only lopsided game of the day. Exeter dominated through game seven to win by a 7 to 1 score. This eliminated Port Elgin and set the stage for the con- solation championship with Kincar- dine and Exeter advancing. Player of the game seven was Jeff Sararas of Exeter. • Game eight rounded out the round robin competition. Listowel and Mt. Brydges played an excellent game with Listowel fmishing on top by a 3 to 2 score. Player of the game was Mt. Brydges goal tender, Jason Knight. This eliminated Mt. Brydges and set the stage for Listowel to repeat as tournament champions. Kincardine and Exeter squared off. in the consolation championship. Kincardine played with zip and vigor to claim their share of hardware for the day as they skated to a 6 to 2 win. Player Of the game went to Jamie McArthur of Kincar- dine and Kincardine's Peter Myall was awarded goal tender of the consolation competition for his skillful antics.' The Mildmay and Listowel teams warmed up to prepare for a very determined championship game. This was definitely the game of the day as a charlipionship game should be. Listowel battled to a 6 to 4 triumph with Mildmay putting up a fantastic game with their speed and daz'ling goaltending from Josh Ellis who was picked overall goal - tender for the day. Listowel's Moises Drumond was picked as player of the game. This game was close from start to finish without a penalty being called as the boys came strictly to play hock- ey. Congratulations to Listowel on their win and we look forward to seeing them return next year. Elaine Irwin's sons, Ken and Chris presented the trophies and offered congratulations to all the participants. The M.V.P. of each game and goaltenders in the consolation and championship game received a hockey stick, graciously donated by Glen and Marianna Porter of Luck - now. The Listowel Cyclone Bantam B team won the championship game at the Elaine Irwin Memorial Bantam B tournament last Friday..
