But Trimble doesn't foresee a
calming down this spring. •
"Some of the corn is still out
there. I don't know what the quality
will. be when they (the farmers) dp
get it off.".
The level of government aid is
also a big factor in the demise of
some of the farmers.
In previous years, government
programs related to farming were
about $703 million. Last year, they
were cut to $383 million.

"That's quite a cut. Less govern-
ment money and a dreadful year of
weather, plus a recession...they have
a lot against them."
Since the mid -80's, more farm
people had off the farm jobs and
become dependent on these jobs.
With the recession, people are
losing these jobs, said Trimble.
"Things were going reasonably
well until that income was gone.
Now some are getting behind in
taxes, hydro and bills.i'
Partners who don't have last
year's feed bill paid are having to
worry about what to do this year,
she
said.
"When they get depressed, they
can't see any farther. Maybe we
can see a solution they can't."
Trimble is hoping that OMAF can
find the money to fund her program
again when her team runs out in
March.
"It's a very heartrending job but I
try to keep perspective. If I don't, I
can't help anyone."

ment. And then he moved to
Middlesex.
He said he struggled with the "`
decision to move to Bruce County,
and said he took the challenge
because it was time for a change.
"It was time for me to leave the
county."
And to do his new county justice
and be fair, he said he had to
make the change well before retir-
ing.
Now that he has been here for
about three months, he said he
knows "I made theright decision."
Bruce County is bigger than
Middlesex, but in terms of OMAF
size, it's a smaller office.
Middlesex was more of a regional
office.
"The difference here is it isn't a
com and soybean economy."
Agar said Bruce's soils are as
good, but heat units make the
difference.
His impression of Bruce County
people is "they are ready to put
the shoulder" against the tough
times they face this spring in
harvesting last fall's crop and
planting this year's.
Farmers here are no better or
worse off than in Middlesex, he.
said.
"There are different circum-
stances, but people rise to the
challenges and come up with
strategies" to deal with their prob-
lems, he said.
