Ashfield woman would li e to establish
Huron County chapter of OFWN
by Pat Livingston
As a member of the Ontario Farm
Women's Network (OFWN), one of
Jayne Brady-Miltenburg's goals is
to establish a Huron County chap-
ter.
Jayne is one of several farm
women profiled in Let Us Introduce
Ourselvess,, a directory of Ontario
farm woillen, released by the
OFWN. in October 1992. These
women indicated. they wanted to
play a role in the agricultural indus-
try., and "to participate in the deci-
sions that are made; decisions that
will have an impact on their indus-
try, their communities 'and their
families." The book is referred to as
"a complete 'guide to finding
speakers, panel members, workshop
facilitators, writers, committee
members, policy makers and more.
Born and raised on a dairy farm
in the Dorchester area, Jayne found
that when she worked at the Guelph
General Hospital she had a need to
maintain her farm community con-
nection. She first became a member
of the Wellington Women for Sup-
port of Agriculture. In 1988 all
smaller or local farm women's
groups came together under • the
umbrella of OFWN. The incentive
for such a founding was the need to
link the smaller groups together to
share information and resources.
Jayne and her husband, Ben,
operate a family farm, in Ashfield
Township, Huron County. Their
focus is primarily dairy, with veal,
andcorn, mixed grain, and hay
crops as secondary.
Jayne graduated ,from Centralia
College in 1981 as a food service
supervisor which gives her exten-
sive dietary and food services
experience. She worked at the
Guelph Hospital for, 10. years. •
She is highly skilled in producing
newsletters, Currently Jayne is the
newsletter editor for OFWN, with
approximately 320 members. In the
past she was editor for the Welling-
ton WSA, the Guelph Field Natural-
ists Club, and co-editor of the
Guelph General Hospital's newslet-
,,.
In her spare time, she enj»ys-"
birding, x -country skiingr gardety
and reading. She claifns tui
amateur's interest in pho, ography,
but Ben maintains the lengths she
goes to4.obtain certain pictures
exhibits more than an amateur
interest.
