Goderich this month
The monthly meeting of the
Dungannon Women's Institute was
held Mar. 4 at the home of Ruth
Freeland, in Goderich.
Roll call was something that the
current generation learn 'at school
that I did not.
Some answers were French
Immersion, metric system, computer
courses, conservation and recycling
information :and -projects. Fourteen
members attended.
Roberta Linskil, filling in for Joan
Dougherty, read the minutes, the
financial report and the correspon-
dence.
One letter, from the Federated
Women's Institute, wanted each
institute to collect grass -rots his-
tory, by checking records and inter-
views from- the past and names'
entered in the Tweedsmuir history
books. A book is going to be writ-
ten containing this collected infor-
mation.
Since St. Patrick's Day is coming
up, Ruth had decorated her house

from a trip to Ireland and Winifred
read a poem entitled The Little
Leprechaun.
The theme_for this meeting was
"Educational Activities," with Ruth
Freeland, since she subscribes to
the Delhi paper. Her former teacher
had a write-up on the new educa-
tion which she read to us.
As the new de -streaming process.
is of interest to many people, we
discussed the pros and cons of its
installation in the fall.
By this process all children will
be treated equal, the slower learners
being helped by the faster learners
as in one -room schools of the past.
This is assuming all children have
the motivation to learn and go on to
university.
Some do better if they drop out
and live in the real world for a
while until they want to learn as
they mature later on.
'Many former students are going
back and taking specialized courses
of their- own choice to help them
get a better job.
At any rate, these children are our
future and it is hoped they find
their right place in it.
