Elizabeth is currently employed by Ontario Hydro in Toronto in the •Agricultural Programs 'Department. • Percussion Discussion is a for four to eight year olds You are invited to join in the fun on Monday, Mar. 15, when the Lucknow Library presents Per- cussion Discussion with, instructor Michael Wood. This hands-on workshop begins at 2:30 p.m. and will introduce children to percussion instruments • from around the world including Africa, Asia, Brazil and many other countries. • Percussion Discussion has been created especially for four to eight year olds. The hand percussion instruments will expose' young children to unique sounds and rhythms. Children are able to learn how sound is produced on a variety of instruments. Michael teaches the concepts of beat and rhythm as well as the understanding of what causes sounds to be'high or low. Michael Wood' is the principal percussionist with the Stratford Festival Loft Orchestra, a position he had held for the past 10 years. During his varied career he has played for the national Ballet of Canada, percussion instructor for Wilfrid Laurier University; and is presently director of the University. of Waterloo Stage Band as. well as percussion instructor. Christian Reformed Church hosts World Day of Prayer The first Friday in March each year over 170 countries around the world celebrate the World Day. of Prayer. This year the service' in Lucknow was held in the Christian Reformed Church. Syke Sutherland welcomed every- one and gave a bit of background on the country of Guatemala, as the women of that country were respon- sible for preparing this year's pro- gram. Representatives from Lucknow Anglican, Catholic, United, Presby- terian and South Kinloss Presby- terian churches assisted with the readings. Guest speaker for the service was Sandi Luchies who spoke on the theme God's People - Instruments of Healing. She told about their work at a Friendship House in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for six years before coming to Lucknow to the Christian Reformed Church. Special music during the offering 'was provided by Intent of Heart - Raylene Rebryna and Rachel Pritchard. The Horticultural Society arranged for a bus trip last Wednes- day for people to get away from the winter blahs and enjoy a touch of UCKNOW by Mildred Loree spring. Many from Kincardine, Point Clark, Lucknow, Wingham' and Teeswater enjoyed visiting the Garden Club of Toronto Flower Show. Some of our residents that have enjoyed holidays in warmer cli- mates have returned home. Betty Finlayson spent a month with rela- tives in Arizona; Jane Treleaven, Jessie Chester and daughter Margaret enjoyed three weeks in Hawaii and Gordon and Bernice Johnston are home after spending January and February in Lakeland, Florida. Donald and Mary Anne MacDonald of Nashville, Tenn., are visiting with his aunt Jennie Porteous and' with friends in the area for approximately 10 days. Snow banks are a new experience for Mary. Anne.
