Beware of scientists
Kindergarten students turned into INSIDER
scientists in the last two weeks. We
LCPS
got to do some experiments. We
made our own fun dough and
Oobeck and even silly putty.
Experimenting is great fun especial-
ly when you get to play with your
own experiments.
Heart month is almost over and
Grade 1 children are bringing back
their "Good Deed" pages of all the
kind things they did at home. We
have made word banks of "Oppo-
sites" and "Direction" words which.
we play matching games with. We
are going to work on stories for the
'Young Author's week. Tomorrow
we made "Nick's" Special Me
book. We are still enjoying acting
out Fairy Tales at Storytime.
The Grade 1/2 class are learning
about dinosaurs in February. We
are doing dinosaur centres. We
drew giant pictures of some dino-
saurs and we- are fording out infor-
mation about them.
The Grade 2/3 representatives in
the gym for speeches were Michelle
Carruthers, Nicole Kingsbury and
Nigel Black. They all did a super
job. This week Mrs. MacIntyre
helped each person in the class
research an animal from the
Rainforest. We have also read some
wonderful books about the beautiful
Rainforest.
The 'Grade 4/5 class has been
enjoying a amaryllis. It has 'four
beautiful pink and white blooms.
We are patiently waiting for our
other bulbs to also grow and bloom-.
Out best wishes go to Ellen Husk
and Laura Murray who have been
away due to illness.
The Grade 5/6 class would like to
congratulate the following students
for their special achievements.

class would like to : extend a big
"Thank -you" to.Mr. Sutherland for
taping and editing our Family
Treasures Presentation. It was a
great deal of fun and we felt very
professional under the lights and
using real microphones. The tape is
a treasure in itself.
Congratulations are extended to
Taylor Mali, who placed third in
the Intermediate division at the
Lucknow Legion Public Speaking
contest. Julie Callan and Sean
Lougheed also did a great job of
presenting their speeches in the
gym. The Grade 7s have been
doing a study of a video novel
"Brothers By Choice," while the
Grade "8s have been doing writing
activities about a Pal Kropp novel
A number of tests have been writ-
ten recently as report cards are
going home on March 9.
Our budding authors are now
corning to the end of their major
writing/research project. Many skills
have been learned. They include,
how to research, how to edit and
proof-read, how to make a bibli-
ography, how to set up a book for
final copy, and even how to make a
quality book cover. The results.will
be fantastic. Ask one of our grade
eights to share their book.
In Family Studies the Grade 7s
are starting pot holders and pin
cushions and are doing the Victor-
ian Era. The Grade 8s are learning
about parenting, teen -parent con-

will be attending the Young
Author's Conference in Walkerton

Lucknow Can Problem Solve
Dealing effectively with conflict
is a necessary life skill for students'
and adults. Our entire school is
adopting a problem solving
approach to resolving conflicts. It is
our hope; that these problem solving
strategies will be powerful tools as
pupils face challenging situations
throughout their lives. Students will
learn to stop, ,think, act and review
in response to problems and con-
flicts. Greater understanding and
tolerance of others, improved com-
munication and increased responsi-
bility will also be fostered.
The STARpower approach will be
introduced during the week of April
19-23, with many special events,
activities and guests. The week will
include a play, a presentation by
staff, guest speakers, electives and
many classroom activities. Planned
guest speakers include referees,
Constable Gaeler and board guid-
ance staff. The electives which will
be offered, range from line, dancing
to quilting to cooperative games to
art activities to song writing to
presentations by local groups. We
