Program offers two choices for investment
by Paul Klopp, MPP Hurou
The big turn -out for the seminar
in Wingham on starting$a business
and the number of enquiries at the
Huron County Small Business
Centre in Clinton shows that many
of you are considering starting a
business of your own. With a num-
ber of companies in fmancial diffi-
culty the employees have shown
that they want a stake trying to save
the company. They are interested in
owning and managing a company.
Ontario has assisted a number of
employee groups save the company
and the jobs.
Often employees or potential
investors learn too late about a
company in trouble. Rather than
wait to deal with a company which
is in a crisis situation the govern-
ment has established a program
which allows employees and other
investors to buy into the company.
The Ontario Investment &
Employee Ownership Program has
two choices for investment. As part'
of an employee group,•you can buy
into your company by forming an
Employee Ownership Corporation.
The employee group, must submit a
business proposal to the Ministry of
Industry, Trade and Technology.
The benefits fon fhe,employee
would be Ontario tax credits. They
would be used to reduce a person's
Ontario income tax. Like all invest-
ments there is no Ontario govern-
ment guarantee of success. Whether
,you are an employee or an investor
in the Investment Fund there is risk..
The second option - is the Labour
Sponsored Investment Funds. They

bears are taken for their paws
and gall -bladders ... deer •and'elk

illegal trade has grown ,into a
multimillion -dollar business.
