Home and school association
suggests more taxpayers involvement
To the editor:
The BruceCouncil of Home and
School Associations is made up of
Home and School Associations in
the county. These include Amabel
Hepworth, Central Public, Brant,
Township Central, Bruce Township
Central, Chesley Public, Elderslie
Central, Huron Heights, Kincardine
and District Secondary, Mildmay -
Carrick, Port Elgin Saugeen Cen-
tral, Walkerton Public and W.E.
Thompson.
As members of the Ontario Feder-
ation of Home and School Associ-
ations Inc., a province wide net-
work of dedicated members, we are
committed to informed, and pro-
active involvement in our -homes,
our schools and our communities to
obtain the "Best for Each Learner".
We believe parents/guardians are
willing and active partners with
those delivering education programs
and services. We believe "Home
and School" at all levels is an advo-

cafe for the learners in the public
school system. We believe cooper-
ative and. healthy environments in
the home, the school, and the com-
munity are necessary for the devel-
opment of each learner. We believe
local, provincial, and national par-
ental networking• is essential. We
believe effective communication is
critical.
In these times of economic
restraint, it is important for all
concerned parties to work together
to implement cost efficient changes
in the educational system. With our)
students in mind as our fist con-
sideration, the Bruce Council of
Home and School Associations,
submitted 12 suggestions to the
Bruce County Board of Education.
These varied from towering
thermostat settings, wiser and more
environmentally aware,use of paper,
to more efficient use of board per-
sonnel. We also suggested to the
board, that strategic planning to
update priorities would be of great
benefit to all..
As an organization, recognized by
-the Ministry of Education and
Boards of Education, we are one
voice for parents, but at all times it
must be remembered that we are
working as partners in education to
obtain the "BEST FOR EACH
LEARNER". Might we suggest to.
our fellow taxpayers that you too
have a responsibility to work with
the Board of Education, by offering
constructive suggestions with
regards to the wise use of our dol-
lars.
Respectfully submitted on behalf
of the Bruce Council of Home and
School Associations.

Voice for Life board opposes and condemns .
abortion service providers final report
To the editor:
On Dec. 18, 1992, the Task
Group of Abortion Service Pro,
viders presented its final report to
the Minister • of Health Francis
Lankin. The minister has promised
to implement all of the recominen-
dations. The board has reviewed the
report and finds it necessary to
strongly oppose and condemn its
existence.
We ask you, the citizens of
Ontario, to join us in denouncing
this miscarriage of justice. The
report was prepared and presented
by an 11 member task force all of
whom are abortion service pro-
viders. It is therefore not surprising
that .the recommendations request.
the expansion of abortion services.
Some of these recommendations
include flagrant violations of our
civil and democratic rights, It is
stated that all hospitals. offering
. obstetrics must include abortion
facilities, It also states that the
College of Physicians and Surgeons
must issue a statement to remind
physicians that regardless of 'their
personal views they have to make
abortion - referrals.: '
There is also a demandfor a
province -wide injunction barring
pro=life protest. Section 2 of ,the
Charter of Rights and Freedoms-
clearly states that Canadians have a
right to the fundamental freedoms
of thought, belief, opinion and
expression includingfreedom of
press and other media of communi-
cation and the right to freedom of
peaceful assembly. These rights are
being ignored by the task force.
It seems .ridiculous that 'in this

"During the past week, Bob Rae
has attempted to paint a new face
on existing projects, • he has created

Elston said. "These announcements
raise important questions and the
Legislature should be recalled so
we can get some answers."
Among the questions:

if any of the spending is new
money, will the deficit increase, or
will increased debt be taken on by
the new crown corporations?
- Why is the government using the
crown corporations to hide its defi-
