Two wins and a loss tallied Midgets down Chesley in first round.
up by the Novice "A" team
On January 28, the Lucknow `iwom
Novice "A" team hosted Drayton NOVICE
and were . on the losing end of the
score.
The teams played a scoreless first
and second period. In the third
period Drayton scored at the 14:14
mark and again at the 6:47 mark to
lead 2-0. Lucknow tried to
comeback but couldn't put the puck
in the Drayton net.
Lucknow vs Mildmay
On February 1, Lucknow jour-
neyed to Mildmay and came home
with a shutout victory.
Lucknow scored 1 goal in each
period. In the first period Russell
Mann scored unassisted. In the
second period Mann scored from
Dan McDonagh and Jeff McNee: In
the third period, Tim Eadie scored
from Tyler Hamilton. Blue Wiens
made numerous good saves and
recorded another shutout for his
team mates.

Ripley vs Lucknow
On February 4, Lucknow hosted
Ripley with Devin Petteplace open-
ing the scoring at the 6:44 mark
with assists by Russell Mann and
Stuart Moffat. Devin scored his
second of the bight from Tim Eadie
and Jason Pentland to lead 2-0 after
one period.
In the second period Ripley
scored to but the lead to 2-1.
Petteplace completed his hat trick at
the 9:14 mark assisted by Rickey
Andrew to lead 3-1.
Ripley, scored again to cut the
lead to 3-2. Darlene Aitchison from
Eadie gave Lucknow a 4-2 lead and
Tyler Hamilton scored from
Aitchison and Bob Raymond to
give Luck new a 5-2 lead after two
periods.
In the third period Riley scored
the only goal to make the final
score Lucknow 5, Ripley 3.
Lancers lead Lion's Head
The Lucknow Lancers are up two
games on Lion's Head in the best
of five series after back to back
wins on the weekend.
Friday's .see -saw battle saw the
Lancers pull out a 10 - 9 overtime
win with Chris .Irwin slamming
home the winner four minutes into
the overtime period.
The Lancers led 5-3 after two
periods but found themselves
behind the eightball midway
through the third as Lion's Head
scored four times to take a 7-5 lead.
The home team kept plugging away,
and tied the score at eight, then
'took the lead with one minute left
• to play on Grant Gilchrist's second
goal of the ganie. Lion's Head
pulled the goalie and tied the game
to send it into overtime.
Brad Priestap paced the Lancer
attack with three goals while singles
went to Scott Hackett, Steve
Simpson, Mike Whitcroft and Jeff
Gammie.
Sunday night's contest was more
of a defensive battle with the
Lancers barely holding on for a 3-2
win.
Chris Fryfogle played his best
game of the year in the Lancer net,
as the locals took a two game lead
in the series.
Steve Simpson's goal: on a pass
from Jeff Gammie tied the score at
one after the first period, while
Brad Priestap put the Lancers. up 2-
1 in the second and Art Clark drove
home the winner on a nice set up
from ,Chris Irwin.
• The Lancers have their work cut
out for them Friday night at 8:45 as
Lion's Head tries to get: back in the
series.
The Lucknow Midget hockey
team travelled to Ripley on January
27 for the annual Ripley Legion
Midget Tournament.
The early morning rise for an
eight o'clock game proved to be too
much for the local boys with
Howick, corning away with a 8-1
win.
After a rest and a terrific lunch
the boys were ready for their .next
opponent, downing Paisley 5-0.
This took them into the Consolation
championship game, against Brus-
sels. The boys played a strong
game and brought home the conso-
lation banner with a 8-3 win.
Playoffs
AsI,vith all the Lucknow teams,
the Midgets started their first round
of playoffs with Chesley. The fuss
game was in Lucknow on February
1. Lucknow tookthe lead early with
three goals, in the fust period. They
tallied three more goals in the sec-
ond to Chesley's two. But Chesley
wasn't giving up and tallied four
goals in the third to Lucknow's
two. Lucknow held on to take the
first win 8-6..
The second game of the series
was back : in Chesley on Friday
night. It was do or die for Chesley
and they weren't about to lay down
and play dead. -
Chesley opened the scoring but
Lucknow answered withtwo by the
end of the first. Chesley scored
twice in the second to take a lead
into the third period.
Lucknow came out on top in the
third with three more goals to
Chesley's two taking the game into
overtime. With 1:42 left in the over
time period Chesley scored for .the
win. Final score was 8-6.
This brought the third and final
game back to Lucknow on Sunday,
M IDGET
February 7.
Chesley took a 2-0 lead in the
fust period, but Lucknow showed
strength and determination, by
coming back to take a 3-2 lead into
the dressing room after two periods
of play.
Lucknow didn't give in to
Chesley's goon style of hockey.
With good refereeing and level
headed playing the boys came out
on top of the series with a 6-2 win.
The boys play Teeswater in the
next round of playoffs. The first
game is in Teeswater on February 9
and the second game of the series
will be back in Lucknow on Sunday
February 14 at 5:00 p.m. Come out
and show your support.
Atoms take series to the fifth game
Last Monday, the Atom "A" team
travelled to Chesley to play the
third game of the series. Justin
Brown took position in net for
Lucknow.
Chesley scored first at the mid-
way mark of the second but with
five seconds remaining in the
period Rob McGee broke down
along the boards and cut to the
middle to beat the Chesley goalie,
Mark Stanley earned the assist.
Chesley came right back to take
the lead early. in the" third but. Stan-
ley tied the gamewhen he back
handed the puck •into the bottom
comer of the net, assisted -by Jordan
Hamilton and Nick Mann.-Lucknow
went into the lead after a flawless
passing play, between Stanley and,
McGeebut Chesley scored to send
the game into :10 minutes of over-
time.
McGee scored . twice, once
assisted by Dennis Andrew and
Stanley and the other, an unassisted
ATOM
short handed effort but Chesley
again evened the score to end the
game in a 4 all tie.
Game 4
The 'fourth game was played in
Lucknow on Tuesday. Adam
Cameron played net for Lucknow.
Lucknow opened the scoring in
the second, when Mark Stanley put
one under the crossbar, assisted by
Dennis Andrew and Jordan
Hamilton but Chesley tied the game
on• the power. play. Lucknow
reclaimed the lead when Conor
McDonagh's shot went between the
legs of the Chesleygoalie, assists
earned by John VanDiepenbeek and
Nick Mann.
With four minutes left in the
game Chesley tied the score and
quickly took a two goal lead. After
pulling the goalie, Jeff Andrew put
Lucknow within one,assists from
Rob McGee and Hamilton but when
the game ended, Lucknow came out
on the short side of a 4 to 3 score.
Game S
The fifth and final game was
played in Chesley on Friday night.
Brown took his turn in net for
Lucknow. As in the previous
games, the teams played exciting
end-to-end hockey. -
Chesley hit the' scoreboard first
but Jeff Andrew stick -handled the
puck up ice and deked the goalie to
tie the game. Ten seconds into the
third period, Rob McGee scored
unassisted but Chesley came •bacl
to send the game into overtime
Neither team scored in OT and a tie
was all Chesley needed to win the
series.
