Lloya's Dolls
move up the
main street
Lby Mildred Loree
Once again the business area on
the main street has changed with
the move of Lloya's Dolls Plusend
the Sears catalogue office from the
corner of Campbell and Inglis
Streets to 634 Campbell Street. The
business is now located in the for-
mer commercial banking office of
the Bank of Montreal. Going back
further for former residents, where
Sandersons Clothing and Dry
Goods was located for many years.
Annual meetings are the common
practice for organizations and
churches at this time of the year as
they pause to look over their suc-
cesses of the past year and plan for
future activities.
Sunday evening, members of the
Lucknow and South Kinloss
churches met for a contemporary
worship service and communion in
the Lucknow Presbyterian Church.
Just six more weeks of winter,
whether the ground hog sees his
shadow or not.

Junior WI members learn
about RRSPs and RRIFs
Rod McDonagh of McDonagh
Insurance was the guest speaker for
the January meeting of the
Lucknow Junior Women's Institute.
He spoke to the group in his role
as investment, broker on the topic of
Registered Retirement Savings
Plans (RRSPs). An interesting stat-
istic is that.. in 1991, $14.6 billion
dollars was invested in. RRSPs by
approximately 4.5 million Cana-
dians. .
There .are two basic p see f a
RRSP. One is as a retirem n o
because people can no longer
depend on government or even
some company pension plans.
Another is to defer paying tax on
the money invested in the plan and
on the interest which is com-
pounded in it. When a particular
RRSP-GIC matures, it can be rolled

term, or can be. transferred to a
different institution. Contributions
can no longer be made after age 71,
at which time the RRSP must be -
used to purchase an annuity or a
Registered Retirement Income Fund
(RRIF). These plans begin to pay
out the money to the plan holder
while still paying interest: An annu-
ity is the best choice if interest rates
are high, because this rate is paid
for the life of the annuity. With a
RRIF, the interest rate is set for the
chosen term. Deposits and securities
eld by financial institutions are
sured only up to $60,000, so itis
w" .• for the investor to spread his
investments over several institu-
tions.
Plans were made for the February
meeting:when reflexology sessions
will be offered, and Valentine bas-
kets made.
Future unclear
for RNA school
by Cameron Woods
The future of the Wingham
Nurses Assistants' School remains
unclear.
The school faced closure last
year, but appeals to keep it open led
to further discussion at the govern-
ment level. However, after meeting
with Huron MPP Paul Klopp, any
word regarding the school from the ,
Ministry of Health has yet to come.
Members of the school executive
and the hospital board met with Mr.
Klopp in December. At that time he
assured them he would get word
from Francis Lankin, the Ontario
health minister. As of last
Thursday's hospital board meeting,
Mr. Klopp had yet to inform the
local contingent of any decision.
In the meantime, the school has
been given the green light to pro-
ceed with recruittbent and planning
for the next semester.
