Steve, who has been manager at W.G. Thompson and Sons Ltd.. has accepted a position in Mitchell and will be assuming his duties there in February. Music for dancing was provided by D.J.'s Jim and Ella May Mohring, of Dungannon. Master of Ceremonies for this occasion was Eugene Johnston. A musical item entitled Ode to Steve Faber was presented by the employees of W.G. Thompson. Teresa Courtney and Harold Elliott finished in the high positions with Aileen Trommer and Roy Burchill . in the low positions. Due to the inclement weather, the busi- ness meeting for the month of January was cancelled. Reports will be received for the February 3 meeting. A larger crowd was on hand for the card party on January 20 as 13 tables were filled. High lady and gentleman were Lois Haggitt and Jack Kennedy. Low positions were filled by Shirley Hackett and Elmer Trommer. Church news The regular service of worship was conducted on Sunday at the Dungannon United Church by Rev. Orilla Bogart. Mary Garrick pro- vided the organ music. The sermon, text was based on the theme of discipleship - Following Jesus, with the Scripture reading from Matthew 4:12-23. UCW The Dungannon -Nile UCW group met at the Dungannon United Church on January 19 for its monthly meeting. President Donna Young opened the proceedings with - a prayer in the form of a reading entitled Be With Us Lord. Twelve members answered the roll call with resolutions and/or readings. Helen Dawson led the worship service with the theme of Steward- ship. Two movies, entitled Perfect Peace and Charlie Takes the Pledge, and based on the steward- ship theme, were shown. The Hugh McWhinney family presented the Sunday School with a television. A video cassette recorder was recently purchased and donated in memory of the late Karl Ulch. The Secretary and treasurer's reports were read and accepted. The secret friends' names will be revealed, at the February dinner meeting: . Grandma has a visitor Visiting with Marg Thompson of Purple. Grove last Wednesday was Florence Nicholson. Catherine Maclnnes spent last Weekend with her grandma, Edna Stanley. Maitland Presbyterial report The weatherman was forecasting flurries and snow squalls but we were blessed with bright sunshine for the annual meeting of Maitland Presbyterial on January 18 in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Wingham. The theme for the , day was "Whom Will You Touch Today?" President Erlma Haldenby opened the meeting with a reading "Reach- ing 'for Rainbows" and prayer, followed by everyone joining in singing "Help us to help each other, Lord". Genie Tiffin, of the Wingham afternoon society, welcomed every- one to St. Andrew's. The morning session was taken up. With the reading of the various reports, showing another very suc- cessful year in spite of a decrease in the active members and an increase in the associate members. We were able to view the video "After the Storm, Power and Peace in the Middle East," which'may be used with our studies this year. Agnes Bregman brought greetings from Synodical and Council and, Rev. John Vaudry brought greetings from Presbytery. He suggested mission is a team effort for the minister and the missionary groups to encourage. all members of the church to become more involved in the spreading of the Gospel. Continuing on with the same theme, Erlma chose the reading "Reach Out and Touch" to open the afternoon sessionand the hymn "He Touched Me". Anne , , MacDougall, Margaret Hamilton and Mary Lavis of South Kinloss presented the devotions on the story of the Good Samaritan and the joy of service to others. Each society; • presented a short description of he way ° they reach out and touch others at their meet- ings and in other services. Each presentation was unique with some, telling the highlights, some showing the highlights with pictures and, visual cards on a bulletin board, different forms of poetry, skits and one group even sang an account of their endeavours. The new Area Educational Con- sultant, Margaret Greig, was intro- duced and she brought greetings, telling a small segment of her work among nine presbyterials.
