HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1993-01-20, Page 7Ratify two-year agreement by David Emslie After negotiating since the late spring of 1992, the Huron County Board of Education°and its elementary school teachers have ratified a two-year collec- tive agreement. The teachers, represented by the Huron Women Teachers' Association and the Huron Chap- ter of the Ontario Public School Teachers' Federation, have been without a contract since August of '92. Under the agreement, the teachers will receive no salary increase for the months of Sep- tember '92 to the end of this month. However, effective Feb- ruary -1, grid salaries ,will be increased by one per cent. The second year of the agree- ment calls for a salary increase which will not be paid until the end of the two-year, agreement in June of 1994. This second year' increase, which will be retroac- tive to September of '93, will be equal' tothe per cent change in the Ontario Consumer Price Index from March '93 to March •'94. According to the agreement, the maximum adjustment will be two per cent. • a A release from the HCBE states, "As of September 1, 1992, the minimum and maxi- mum salaries on the grid will be $27,015 and $62,120 respective- ly:' Benefits were also considered in the agreement, and the dental plan will be modified on April 1, 1993 and April 1, 1994 to pro- vide benefits based on a two- year lag in the Ontario Dental Association fee schedule. "All other benefits will remain the same," the board release reads. "The agreement also recognizes th current.Employee Assistance Ian which was implemented on a cost sharing. basis." • Lucknow and Goderich split back-to-back games On January 9, the Lucknow Atom house Ieague played an exhibition game against Godetich. Goderich scored three goals before Lucknow's Matthew Martin and Andy Evans hit the twine. Final score Goderich 3, Lucknow 2 'Lucknow vs Goderich• On January 11, Lucknow travelled to Goderich for a rematch, and played their best hockey so far this year. Goderich scored first but after that the Lucknow team shut them down, scoring six unanswered goals. "Sharp -shooters" for Lucknow were Apdrew Pickard and Jeff -Havens with two goals each, John VanDiepenbeek with one goal and. two assists, Matthew Martin with. one goal and one assist, Andy Evans with two assists and defencemen Chad Foster and Jonathon •Drennan with an assist each. . .. • Final score Lucknow 6, Godetich 1. • ATOM Lucknow vs Wingham Lucknow played against Wingham on Wednesday. The first goal of the game was scored by Wingham in the second period but Lucknow tied the game after Steven Hare tipped in a pass from Jeff Havens. Wingham scored the only goal of the third and the same ended Wingham 2, Lucknow 1. • Lucknow•vs Kincardine Saturday afternoon saw the Lucknow•team on the ice again, this time in a ,game against Kincardine 3. After so much hockey this week, the players did not give it theirbest effort. Lucknow's only goal of the game was scored after John ' VanDiepenbeek took the puck up the ice and passed to Jeff Havens whose shot.hit the top corner of the net. Final score Kincardine 7, Lucknow 1. Lots of get well wishes Mr. and Mrs: Francis . Boyle of Ripley visited last 'Sunday with Edna and May Boyle. We extend get well wishes to two former Concession 14 residents Bill Burt, who underwent surgery at Owen, Sound Hospital, and Winnifred Shaw who is also a patient there, Penny Hatdenby . is a hospital patient. We wish her better health. She is in Hanover Hospital. Karen Kliest of Wingham visited on Thursday with Myttle Percy. Eva. Nicholson of Kincardine, Joan. Murray and Joan Barr' of hcrc were at a quilting bee at Myrtle Percy's, home. • We send our best get well wishes to Reg Powell of here an Bert Nicholson of Kincardine who are both patients in the Kincardine and District General Hospital. They were both Kinlough neighbours for a number of years and we hope they will soon improve and be able to be at home again. Nina McDonald and Bessie Maulden attended the birthday open house in Teeswater on Sunday for Bertha Struthers. • Russell Bushell is a patient in University Hospital, London. Isobel Thompson presided and opened the meeting with a spiritual ,thought followed with a hymn and the purpose. Rollcall was answered by pay- ment of dues and ideas for the 1993 programs, which were then com- piled. ACW Tho Anglican Church Women met on J' nuary 14 at Alphie Neabel's horn . in Holyrood. Maureen Collins, • president,; opened with two poems. Hymn singing was followed by prayer. The rollcall was a scnpture verse with a promise. Kay Thacker read the minutes and a letter from St. Monica House, Waterloo, thanking us for the dona- tion which was sent at Christmas. . A Huron College student will be visiting in this parish February 19 to 21 to become acquainted with -neral living. Further plans were made for the parish dinner here on January 31 following the service at 11 a.m. The program consisted of various readings pertaining to the New Year -given by Lynda Thacker, Mrs. Neabel and Mrs. Collins. A contest from the words Happy New Year brought out. many words beginning with each letter fqr example H - happiness, help, hope, health. This was followed by ' a reading on school days of the past. OPP report A carcollided with a bus -on Jan. 13 at the Bruce Nuclear; Power Development sending two people to hospital for minor injuries. A car' driven by a 45 -year-old Kincardine woman was coming around a curve on the site at the sante time a bus was rounding the curve in the opposite direction. OPP Staff Sergeant. Al Neville said the woman was apparently surprised by the sudden appearance of the bus on the curve and put on the brakes. The car slid into the bus and both the driver of the car and a passen- ger were taken by ambulance to the Kincardine and • District General Hospital to be .treated for their minor injuries. Also on Jan. 13, Kincardine OPP recovered a stolen car. The car was found by BNPD survey crew • on Concession 8 of Bruce Township at an old research centre. • The- car had been reported stolen from Walkerton on•Jan. 11. The stereo had been taken _ from the car. On Jan. 16 at 2 p,m. an officer on Highway 86 of Kinloss Township observed . the driver of a car driNc- ing. The car was stopped and a 23 - year -old Wingham. man 'was charged with driving while having liquor readily available. Two stop signs were reported, stolen to OPP from Bruce Town- ship. They were taken from Concession E at the corners of .Concession 8 and Concession 12. Staff Sergeant Neville said teen- agers . sometimes take road signs and hang them in their rooms or. garages. He said often people think it's a minor offence to take the signs. "If anyone gets hurt [because of missing stop signs] - we'll charge them with criminal negligence," Staff Sergeant Neville said. Novice A's take two more wins N0vE. On January 14, the Novice `.`A" team hosted Teeswater and played a strong two way game coming away with a 5-3 win. Teeswater scored the only goal of the first period and took a 2-0 lead at 9:06 of the second. Tyler Hamilton scored on a long shot assisted by Devin Petteplace and Brian Stanley. Ricky Andrew tied the game up at 2-2 with assists from Tim Eadie and . Jason Pentland. In the third period Raymond scored from Eadie and Darlene Aitchison at 12:17 to take a 3-2 lead. But 15 seconds later Teeswater tied the. game up at 3-3. Petteplace scored the game winner at 3:20 of the third assisted by Eadie and Pentland. With 46 sec- onds left Russell Mann scored into an empty : net from Pentland and Petteplace. Final score Lucknow 5, Teeswater 3. Lucknow vs Ripley On January 16, Lucknow travelled to Ripley and came home with a come -from -behind -win. • Both teams played a scoreless first period. In the second period Ripley scored two goals' to lead 2-0 going to the third period. Russell Mann scored to cut Ripley's lead to ope goal, but Ripley came right back at the 6:19 mark and restored their two goal lead. Mann then scored at the 5:42 mark and again at 3:08 to tie -the game, up at 3-3. With. only 58 sec- onds left Mann got his fourth goal of the game to make the final score • Lucknow 4, Ripley 3. • Getting assists in this game were Darlene Aitchison, Dan McDonagh and Ricky Andrew.
