Units 1 and 2
On January 5, Units 1 and 2 of
the Lucknow United , Church
Women met in the church fellow-
ship room for a noon luncheon.
After lunch, Ella Hackett read an
opening verse Dare to go Forward.
Gwen Lennips read scriptures and
Helen -Todd in the meditation ch1-
lenged theladies to remember stdw-
ardship, our time is important so
use it and our abilities for the good
of all mankind.
Mrs. Lennips closed the devotions
with prayer.
Lois Goodhue and Violet Arnold
read A Recipe for the New Year
and New Year's Resolution respect-
ively.
Allen Bradley and Grace Gib$on
read articles from the Mission Man-
date - A Ministry that's hard, pain-
ful but never dull. It looked at the
Pridhams' experiences as overseas
personnel in Jamaica. They had
many hardships to overcome -
language, poverty, sickness without.
medical personnel, several churches
to serve and as Mrs. Pridham was a
nurse, she was constantly being
called upon to serve the sick. They
also lived through hurricane Gilbert
which was a terrifying experience.
Then there was the clean up- after-
wards. The Pridhams' experiences
of living on a line in Jamaica
stretched their definition of ministry
in ways they never could have if
they had stayed. in Canada.
Elsie Houston played an instru-
mental and Evelyn Cook played for
the hymns.
Mrs. Hackett closed the meeting
with prayer.
Unit l . .
For the business portion of Unit 1
Lucknow . UCW . meeting, Ella
Hackett presided with Phyllis
Morrison appointed as . assistant
secretary.
Twelve members aPswered the
rolkcall by. paying their -membership
fees. .
A collection wastaken for the
large, print edition of the Upper
Room to be placed ,in Pineerest
Manor this coming year. Similar
editions will be available in Sepo
Apartments and Maple Breen
Manor.
Helen Todd read two thank you
cards for the beautiful poinsettias
received by shut -iris Ida Barger; and
Loreen and Frank McQuilllin.
Repeating of the benediction
closed the meeting.
Unit 2
Following the joint meeting,
Allene Bradley, unit leader presided
for the meeting of Unit 2.
Following the approval of the
minutes, 11 ladies answered the
rollcall by paying their fees and
giving suggestions for programs in
1993.
The offering was received and the
birthday jar passed withhappy
birthday sang to one member.
Carolyn Menary requested anyone
who had material suitable for quilt
blocks to cut it in blocks six or
eight inches square.
Mrs. Goodhue read a verse, Our
Solitary Life - Jesus. Mrs. Arnold
read New. Beginnings.
Mrs. Bradley announced the gen-
eral meeting on January 26 at 8
p.m., that the CGIT are still in need
of used Christmas cards, and dona-
tions of food items are needed for
House of Friendship.
The meeting closed with the
repeating of the UCW Benediction.
Unit 3
Unit 3 of the LucknowLUnited
Church Women field their first
meeting of 1993 on,January 5, with
20 members in attendance.
Anne Anderson, unit leader, wel-
comed the grow and read .a New
Year's poets.
Laura Lee Cayley accompanied-
the
ccompaniedthe hymn singing and Mary Lou
Priestap save the offertory prayer.
Mrs. Anderson' read from - the
Mandate Bible Stories from the
decade , for all ages and Mrs.
Priestap continuedwith real , life
stories ending each with the ques-
tion - What would Jesus have done?
The rollcall was answered by the
payment of fees and a New Year's
thought.
The treasurer's report was given
by Mildred Cameron, reporting
$1423 was raised by Unit 3 in
1992.
For citizenship, Kathleen Collyer
told of seminars, being held to
explore other faiths in the commun-
ity, through the First United
Church, Waterloo. .
Alice Ritchie, for stewardship,
read The Responsible Use of Time.
Bernadean Ritchie reported for
community friendship with Mary
Boyle visiting shut-ins during
December. Mrs. Ritchie volunteered
as visitor for January. _
Mrs. Cayley spoke on thecam-
paign for Indigenous Peoples of the
Americas of Amnesty International
and of their leader, the 1992 Nobel
Peace Award winner, and also
asked that greeting cards be sent to
prisoners around the world.
Fellowship of the Least Coin was
conducted by Mrs. Boyle with
prayer for Quadamala.
The meeting featured a pot -luck
program, which was both interesting
and informative. The members
contributed readings and stories,
both serious and humorous, and the
singing of a favourite hymn. The
members all joined in 'a few exer-
cises for the final number. '
The meeting closed with all
repeating the mizpah benediction.
