While here they attended a Christmas party at his ,brothdr and sister-in-law's Eugene and Melva McLeod of Armow. The y.. studgoes on to say that companies that advertised "much less" ended 'up with a 20%.. market share, while the "much more" compcinies had a 43%' market ' share.• Another study . was done by McGraw-Hill of New 'York. They tracked the advertising and sales .of companies during the mini recession of 74/75, and the recession of 81/82. Companies that cut back .and then restored advertising during 74/75,had a sales increase of 79% over the next five years,. while companies. that maintained .their advertising . had a sales increase. of 132% over the same period. During the recession of . 81/82, companies that cut back .had a 19% sales increase over the next Doze years, while those who m.aintained or even increased their advertising hada 275% increase over the same period. It was concluded that companies. who maintained advertising during a recession carne out with a larger increase in sales. percentage and a larger market share than those who cut back and . Ripley Tweens capture champion- ship at ORA tournament The Ripley Tweens had a very successful weekend when they participated in the Walkerton Tour- nament on Jan. 2 and 3. In their first match they met Cambridge in a close goal for goal game. With only 23 seconds remaining in the game, Reagan Courtney scored the winning goal to give Ripley the 7-6 victory.. Reagan Courtney scored a total of three goals and earned one assist. Carolyn Gattinger tallied two goals, and singles were scored by Natalie Davidson and Melanie Bannerman. Earning assists were Amy Farrell and Sarah MacKay. Lindsay McLelland played a great game in net. Their second opponents were Melanie Bannerman scored Ripley's/ remaining .goal and earned a single assist. Other team mates setting up goals were Amy Farrell and Danielle Murray. Sarah MacKay played an outstanding game in net. Their final round robin game was against Stayner. Once againRipley dominated the game with a 7-3 victory. Reagan Courtney tallied a hat trick, and pairs of goals were tallied by Lindsay McLelland and Carolyn Gattinger. Jenny 'MacDonald,. Melanie Bannerman, Melissa Hollands. Regan Carruthers played a good game in net., This put Ripley into the cham- pionship game with six points. Once again they came up against Walkerton. A very determined set• of players claimed the victory 9-3. Reagan Courtney tallied a hat trick and a assist, and single goals were scored by Regan Carruthers, Erin Rintoul, Natalie Davidson, Melanie' Bannerman, Lindsay McLelland and Carolyn Gattinger. Sarah MacKay played another outstanding game in net. The Ripley team claimed the Tween championship and won all four of their games in the process. • . Congratulations is extended to the Ripley Tween team on their success this past weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Thackerand family spent Boxing Day at the Ferguson honie, in London. Alicia remained over the weekend with her cousins, but returned home with her grandpa Bell. Edna and May Boyle were dinner guest on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. JaCk Scott. Mr and Mrs. Bill MacPherson were , guests. of the Scotts on Monday. May Boyle went• to the Kincardine • and District Hospital where she has been a patient since • Wednesday. We send our best get well wishes to her at this time. Nina McDonald visited on Thurs- day' with her aunt Jenny McTavish at Walkerton and With her sister, Esther Bloomfield at Paisley. On New Years Pay she had dinner with Dr; and Mrs. MaCDonald and Jeffrey at Kincardine.' Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Hedley visited on New Years with Mr. and Mrs. -Rick McMurray and Nathan at Lucknow. We are sorry to report that Bertha Haldenby is quite ill • in the Kincardine and District Hospital. Her family are taking turns staying with her. We wish her improved health. • Ross and Sherry Myerscough and family entertained relatives at' a family dinner on New Years Day. We extend sympathy to M. and Mrs. Bert Nicholson of Kincardine, andformerly of here, on the death of her sister Margaret Hedley of Kincardine. The funeral was held on Saturday at Kincardine. We also ,extend sympathy to the Dunlop' family of KinCar'dittein the death of Mrs. John (Alma) Dunlop. Mrs. Harold (Betty) Smith is a daughter and Mrs. Marjorie Robb is a sister. We extend sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. John Husk and family in the death of her mother Bett9PLamont after a lengthy illness.
