A young 4-H club member from Thedford, Ontario,
Veronica Verkley designed the prize-winning poster
for Agri -Food Week which is held in October.
The celebration of Agri -Food Week includes every-
body (everybody who eats). It's to make people more
aware of the importance of agriculture and food -related
industries. Supermarkets will display the poster; there
will be special food promotions and some farmers are
opening up their farms to urban visitors. Why don't
you send your Rural Voice to an urban person?
PIK, the drought and U.S. agriculture is our #I
story this month, contributed by Mervyn Erb, Agrico
Brucefield, after his recent visit to Ohio, Illinois
and Indiana. Next, Harold Poechman, an active Bruce
county farmer, federation president and businessman.
Then, Alice Gibb, our London-based writer, visited
two young people who had a chance to go down -under
with the International Agricultural Exchange Associa-
tion.
This issue sees the beginning of a series on finances,
starting with finding the right accountant. We also have
a new contributor to The Rural Voice - the "Country
Bruce county. Mouse" - a Huron county native who has written
a Thanksgiving poem.
