more
important
than outlook
Strategy is more important than
outlook when it comes to marketing,
says John DePutter. The Summer
Crop Market Seminar, held recently
in Exeter, was attended by Ag Alert
subscribers and other interested pro-
ducers.
Guest speaker at the meeting, spon-
sored by DePutter Publishing, was
Scott Stewart, Senior Market Analyst
with Agri -Data Resources Inc. in
Wisconsin, Stewart says: "Learning
how to use the market outlook to
devise a profitable marketing strategy
is the key."
Polling the audience, Stewart
discovered that most of the producers
present used hedges, followed charts
and were regularly forward contrac-
ting.
The meeting provided an exchange
of ideas and strategies among the pro-
ducers present as well as with Stewart
and DePutter. A variety of topics was
covered: the weather (!?), PIK pro-
gram, U.S.D.A. Report, handling of
old and new crop corn; soybean corn
and wheat market analysis, charting,
"scaling sales" and trading tips.0
