Unfortunately many of us were still seeding in late May and June. The June meeting had been schedule for June 2, as a Meet the Banker night. The five major banks would not co-operate for a variety of excuses such as, we don't talk to farmers on a county level, only at the provincial level or you didn't give us enough notice (three weeks this time, six weeks a second time). One bank would like to attend such a meeting but only if they were the only bank present, another bank stated they already had a farm advisory group in place and therefore did not wish to hear from any other farmers. The directors of the BCFA met on June 2 anyway to draw up a rough copy draft to be presented to the OMAF red meat strategy meeting in Walkerton June 15. In short the brief stated that BCFA believes that the family farm must survive and that to do so, some form of production controls and better marketing systems must be in place. In the meantime some form of stabilization will be needed. Full copies of the brief may be obtained from the Hanover office. Semi -Annual Saturday July 9, was the semi- annual meeting for the BCFA. As a break from tradition the meeting was a social evening only, no business meeting included. The meetings com- mittee spent many long hard hours to make this a successful event. It's too bad that so many of the directors were unable to attend as they missed an enjoyable evening of good food, good music and good company. In late August, there will be a ma- jor membership drive in Bruce Coun- ty. Fieldman Doug Gowanlock will be calling upon township directors for assistance during this drive so please be prepared to spend a day in your township and sign up those re- maining hard -to -sell hold outs. They deserve to belong to the Federation and we need them. Readers are reminded of the Finan- cial Advisory Service available from OFA. If you know of someone who could use this assistance have them call OFA head office (416-485-3333) and ask for Leslie Ballantine. In cases handled so far the success rate has been quite good.
