Monthly Meeting
April 14, Stratford
Guest speaker at the meeting was
Swine Specialist Richard Smelski who
told the directors he would like to see
more producers and directors involved in
field reporting, innovations, Pork Con-
gress, ventilation, manure handling and
research such as swine health, etc. "Put
your ideas to work for you before you are
told what you can and cannot do," he
said.
The Perth County Barbecue will not be
going to the International Plowing Match
in Ottawa this year because of the
distance involved. It is available for
groups at a nominal fee and anyone
interested should call Gerald Matheson
at 356-2637.
The PCPPA has voted on the outstand-
ing pork producer for Perth County to be
recognized at the Ontario Pork Congress
in June. The winner is Clarence Mc-
Dougall, R. R. 3, Mitchell.
The next directors' meeting is to be
held at OMAF on June 16 at 8 p.m. ❑

Occupational
Health Study
So far the University of Toronto has
only received 700 of the health question-
naires handed out at the county annual
meetings. To get accurate results, they
need at least 1,000.
The study could be an important first
step in allowing producers to protect
themselves from the occupational health
hazards they face in the barn. It's in
everyone's interest to make the result as
accurate as possible.
Please help us get the accuracy we
need. If you, or one of your friends or
neighbours, still has a questionnaire,
please send it in as quickly as possible

Forward
Contracting
Date set
If all goes well, forward contracting
will begin the week of June 13th with
delivery of the first contracted hogs due
seventeen weeks later, during the week
of October 10th.
To participate, producers must first
sign a binding legal agreement. Agree-
ments and an information package will
be available from Toronto within a
month. If you are interested, send in your
name and we will send them out as soon
as they are available.
To make producers aware of the "pros
and cons" of forward contracting, the
O.P.P.M.B. is planning a major publicity
campaign in May. Watch for more
information in upcoming newsletters.
McDougalls: Pork Award
CLOCKWISE from top, Clarence
Robert, Diane and Peggy.
A Hibbert Township farmer who was
named Perth County's pork producer of
the year says his farm is a family affair.
"We like to think this is a family run
enterprise," said 54 -year-old Clarence
McDougall, of RR 2 Mitchell. "Everyone
participates."
With his wife Lula and their five
children, Ellen 21, Paul. 20, Diane, 17,
Robert, 18 and Peggy, 14, Mr. McDougall
works the 300 acre farm in Hibbert and
Logan township he moved to 33 years
ago.
McDougall, Paul, Ellen, Lula McDougall,
About 4,200 hogs were sold from the
farm last year and Mr. McDougall is in
the process of converting to a farrow to
finish operation.
A member of the pork producers
association since it began, he has also
served on the Mitchell Co -Op for 25
years, dedication that earned him a gold
watch from the co-operative at its annual
meeting recently.
Despite his long association with the
pork producers, Mr. McDougall said he
was surprised at being given the
honor. C
