NEW REGISTRATION PERMITS
LOWER LADDOK RATES
Changes to the label instructions for
Laddok herbicide from BASF Canada
Inc., now recommend lower rates (for
certain weeds) when the product is used
following Lasso or Dual preplant incor-
porates or pre -emergent grass herbi-
cides. The lower rates mean effective
broadleaf weed control in corn can be
achieved with less product so costs are
cut dramatically.
WHAT'S NEW?
The proven Laddok formulation has not
been changed so the control program for
weeds not listed under the new rate will
remain the same.
The addition to the Laddok label covers
the most troublesome weeds faced by
most corn growers. It reads: "Where
Lasso or Dual has been applied at the
recommended rate as a preplant incor-
porated or pre -emergent grass herbicide,
the recommended 3 and 4 litre per
hectare Laddok rate may be reduced 10 2
and 2.5 litres respectively, for control of
black nightshade, redroot pigweed,
lamb's -quarters. common ragweed, corn

The rate improves the economy of
Laddok, and helps make it one of the
safest corn herbicides available even less
subject to carry-over problems.

INSECTICIDE EAR TAGS
FOR CATTLE CLEARED IN CANADA
Debantic TM Insecticide Cattle Ear
Tags for control of horn and face flies
around cattle has received clearance from
the Canadian government. The product is
now available from the Animal Health
Division of Diamond Shamrock Chemi-
cals Canada, Inc., Hamilton, Ontario.
The ear tags offer season long protec-
tion from bothersome horn flies and
reduce face fly population. Control of
these pests reduces stress in animals,
which can result in weight gain for beef
cattle or improved milk production with
dairy cows.
Each plastic ear tag weighs only 15
grams. Two tags per head provide
optimum protection for the animal. The
tags' active ingredient, tetrachlorvinphos
insecticide, is slowly released and de-
posited on the animal's body each time it
turns its head. Although lethal to
bothersome insects, the insecticide has
no adverse effect on cattle nor is there
any withdrawal period prior to slaugh-
ter.
NEW PORCINE PARVOVIRUS VACCINE
HELPS PREVENT REPRODUCTIVE
PROBLEMS IN SWINE
Parvo-Pro(R) is a new swine vaccine
developed by Salsbury Laboratories. This
vaccine protects against reproductive
problems caused by porcine parvovirus, a
serious problem for swine breeders. The
disease presently affects over 90 percent
of Canadian swine herds and is con-
sidered a major cause of the SMEDI
complex (stillbirth, mummified fetuses,
embryonic death and infertility). Porcine
parvovirus is characterized by reproduc-
tive failures, small litters, stillborn and
mummified fetuses, delayed farrowing
and bred dams that return to heat.
Parvo -Pro is a single dose, killed virus
vaccine. A 2 ml dose should be
administered to sows and gilts 8 weeks
to 2 weeks before breeding. To reduce
virus shedding in boars, vaccinate at 8
months of age and annually thereafter.
Complete instructions for application are
provided with the product.
Parvo -Pro is available in packages of
10 x 100 ml and 10 x 2 x 20 ml. For
complete information about this new
swine vaccine, contact Salsbury Labora-
tories Ltd., 209 Manitou Drive. Kitchener.
