Special Meeting on Proposed
Farm Property Tax Rebate
- held Thursday, April 14/83 at CHSS,
Clinton 8:30 p.m.
over 600 present.
Sheila Gunby, brought regrets from our
OFA representative Merle Gunby for
his absence. He was attending another
OFA function. Mr. Gunby feels the
policy under discussion will not jeo-
pardize property rights in any way and
will be a significant benefit to farmers.
He has been listening to the concerns
of the people opposed to the tax
policy, and has consistently updated
the OFA about their concerns.

George Underwood, Huron County
Volunteer Task Force Committee
Paul Steckle - representing Huron
County Council
Jack Morris - Warden of Essex County
and a farmer
Brigid Pyke, OFA Executive Committee
Member
Harvey Tasker, Ministry of Revenue
Nancy Bardecki, Ministry of Agricul-
ture & Food.
Each panelist gave an individual pre-
sentation of their stand toward the
policy.

followed from the audience to the
panel.
Motion #1
Motion presented by George Under-
wood, seconded by John Van Beers.
"Whereas HCFA opposes the Ontario
government rebating 100 per cent proper-
ty taxes on productive farmland and
buildings
Therefore Be It Resolved that HCFA
request OFA to reconsider its present
endorsement of the 100% 'Farm Tax
Reduction Program' on productive farm-
land and buildings and Further Be It
Resolved that OFA request the Ontario
Government to continue the 50% farm
tax reduction." Motion CARRIED.
- A vote was then called for on the
motion.
Requirements to be eligible to vote:
1) Be an ISM
2) Be an owner or spouse of an owner -
living in a Township in Huron County that
pays a levy or grant to the County
Federation of Agriculture.
3) Townships of Usborne, Stephen, Hay
& East Wawanash exempt.
- the vote was held with six local
ministers as scrutineers. Results of
motion 393 for & 86 against
- motion by Bill Armstrong, seconded by
Joe Semple to destroy the ballots.
Carried.
Motion #2
- motion by Bev Brown, seconded by
Allan Walper "That HCFA & the
Regional Directors of Huron County
take the approved motion to OFA
Board of Directors meeting on April 20,
1983 and ask each OFA Director to take
the Motion back to their county federa-
tion and to each commodity group and
ask for a current vote from each county
on each motion." Motion carried.
- George Underwood commended Presi-
dent Tony McQuail on the well-run
organized meeting.
- a collection of $160.00 was taken to
help defray the evenings' expenses.
- Meeting adjourned at 11:40 p.m.
