HIGHLIGHTS
The Bruce County Federation of Agri-
culture held its March meeting on the
28th in Walkerton. Guests at the meeting
were Doug Garniss (Huron Federation)
and Merle Gunby (OFA executive).
Doug Garniss attended our meeting to
ask the Bruce Federation to participate in
radio time at CKNX. This broadcast will
be Saturday morning at 7:45 a.m. Shows
will be taped ahead of time. Doug
Gowanlock has agreed to tape a show on
behalf of Bruce in late April.
Merle Gunby advised us on the
Financial Advisory Committee. Lesley
Valentine has been hired by the OFA to
co-ordinate the program and will be in
touch with key people in the county.
Merle also briefly discussed Bill C653
and the proposed farm tax rebate.
Doug Gowanlock (Bruce fieldman)
reported our membership now stands at
1285. Doug suggested that we advertise
the Advisory service in the Owen Sound
Sun Times and local weekly papers.
It was moved by Bill David and
seconded by Evan Keith that the Bruce
County Federation of Agriculture support
Bruce County council in their endeavour
to control beavers in rivers, streams and
municipal drains in Bruce County. Co-
pies of OFA "Future Directions" will be
sent out to directors so that they can read
it over and be prepared to discuss the
proposal at our next meeting. If we want
to have input, the time to do so is now.
The meetings committee will get
together in the near future to plan the
semi-annual meeting and the possibility
of having a bankers night. It was
suggested that the semi-annual be
strictly a social evening.
On March 18th, Bruce County Federa-
tion had a successful "Meet the Mem-
bers" evening in Kincardine. Guest
members were Murray Cardiff, Gary
Gurbin, Murray Elston and Bob McKes-
sock. Our members gave brief talks and
answered questions from the large crowd
in attendance. Incorporated into this
evening was the presentation of the
Tommy Cooper award. This year there
were two winners, Borden Fenton past
president of BCFA and Lloyd Harris from
Grey county. Both of these men are very
deserving of the award.
Next meeting of BCFA is Monday,
April 25th at the OMAF Boardroom at
8:00 p.m. ❑
