SLUMSKIE HEADS CFW
The recent meeting of the Concerned Farm Women resulted in
a new president being named. Founder of the organization, Beth
Slumskie has been named president for the new year. Co-
ordinators working with her include Doris Sweiger, another foun-
ding member and Gisele Ireland, secretary Eloise Calhoun and
treasurer Isabel Walker. The group recently made an evaluation of
their first year's activities reinforcing their high priority on lob-
bying; past president, Kolleen Garland now heads that commit-
tee.
The goals and objective of CFW remain unchanged: lobbying
the politicians and bankers, informing the consumer and farmer
of issues and working with other farm groups and organizations
to help provide a uniform bargaining unit. the CFW has always
promoted the close association of the Famrers Survival
Association and the Federation of Agriculture with their group.
CFW recently hired five people to produce the results of the
recent survey to edit and assemble the manuscript.

DIRECTORS' MEETING NOV. 15, 1982
The last directors meeting for 1982 was held on November 15,
at the OMAF office in Walkerton. Arrangements for alternate
delegates to attend the OFA annual convention were made. As
well the final details of the Bruce Federation annual dinner and
meeting were decided upon and tickets distributed for the ban-
quet at Ripley on December 11th.
Sixteen delegates attended the annual OFA convention in
Toronto, Nov. 22, 23, 24. This was a new experience for many of
the Bruce delegates. Although debate and discussion on resolu-
tions and policy were less than expected by the delegates, all in-
volved from Bruce were pleased to have been elected to par-
ticipate.

The general state of the economy, world politics and
agriculture in particular were topics of many evening and early
morning hour rap sessions. Although no hard and fast conclu-
sions were arrived at, it was an enjoyable experience to share
view points with delegates from across the province.
A reminder to Bruce ISM's. If you are going to be entering a con-
fined space, such as a silo or manure storage tank where you are
not sure of air quality, the Bruce Federation has self contained
breathing air equipment at the Hanover office for use. As the say-
ing goes the life you save may be your own.
