Stratford OMAF crop specialist. Pat
Lynch highlighted research results on
beans and while mold. Two Thompson
varieties of beans, Midland and Wesland
have been recommended for licensing,
after three years of trials, but are not
available for commercial use yet.
Member John Hazlitt stated the prac-
tise by satellite dealers, not having proper
cleaning systems, dumping all grades of
beans into the same truck was "repulsive
and immoral". Board chairman Hill said
this happens with comprehensive dealers
as well as satellite dealers. He said the
Board, staff and committeemen will be
taking a thorough look at the present
bean marketing system and to whether
the present system should be continued.
Board manager, Charles Broadwell, said
the bean board was going through a lot of
trials and tribulations at the present time.
Dissatisfaction was expressed by Bev
Hill concerning mixing different grades of
beans, dealer acceptance of inferior
beans and the present system being abus-
ed by both dealers and producers. Condi-
tions have changed, he said and the bean
board should be similar to the Soybean
Marketing Board. He emphasized the
Bean Board should be looking at possible
changes. Hazlitt reiterated it was the
"mechanics" of the Bean Board that
needed to be changed.
The four directors, Bob Allen, Gordon
Hill, Cecil Desjardine and Joe Miller re-
tained their positions and the present
twelve committeemen were reinstated.
