WORK IN
PAPUA NEW GUINEA
You may think of Papua New Guinea as a lush tropical island in the
South Pacific. This is indeed true. Papua New Guinea is also a country
striving for better living conditions for its people -- by improving food
production and developing agricultural businesses.
As yet, there are not enough skilled agriculture workers. CUSO is
helping to fill these manpower gaps and train local people by recruiting
skilled Canadians for two-year contracts. Jobs currently available include:
Village Development Workers
Four positions are available. The main focus of the work is agricultural
improvement -- crops, gardens and livestock -- but other skills relevant to
community development would be needed, such as knowledge of
carpentry, nutrition, small business or mechanics.
Agronomist -- Range Management
To take charge of a pasture improvement project -- from preliminary
research to establishment of commercial cropping. Diploma and
experience is required.
Many other positions in other fields and countries are available. Salaries
are not high, but are adequate for overseas' living costs, with good fringe
benefits.
