Tony McQuail: new president's report 1 would like to express my appreciation to the farmers in the Huron Federation for their support. As your new president, I am well aware that there is much work to be done to maintain our activities and sustain our membership. This past year, our Federation has been involved in hydro and manure storage issues. This coming year, we can expect to be involved on hazardous waste storage and conservation authority plans in addition to our regular committees. Our Federation's motto is "Farmers working for Farmers." That is a very powerful concept but for it to be effective, we all have to do some homework -- not just leave it up to a few farmers in the executive. 1 was pleased that a number of people filled out the questionaire distributed at the Annual meeting. While many indicated a willingness to serve on committees, we shall need more volunteers. Your new executive will be organizing the committees for 1983 in the coming month. If you would be willing to serve on a PCG. 46 THE RURAL VOICE / NOVEMBER 1982 committee, please let me know. 1 believe our recent successes at the Hydro Hearings and the Manure Storage By -Law have shown the value of co-operation with other farm and commodity organizations. I hope we can continue this approach. Where we can work together we can be more effective within our Federation. The economic constraints which farmers face are difficult and it is important that we reach out to non-farm groups to explain our concerns. 1 believe we may find support in other sectors of our society. There is a lot of work ahead of us. By working together, we can accomplish a great deal. We should also remember that much has been done in the past years. To retiring president Gerry Fortune, and the preceding presidents and executives, we owe a great deal for their work on our behalf. Yours Sincerely 74, / (cont. on page 53) Huron County Federation of Agriculture Combined Board/Directors & Member Meeting Thursday Nov. 11/82 8:30 p.m. Wesley Willis Church, Clinton Special Attention to Convention Delegates ISM Regional Directors & HCFA Executive To review resolutions going to the OFA Convention
