Junior Farmers
welcomes you
by Lynne Maxwell
For those of you who are between the
ages of 15 and 29 and are not Junior
Farmers, read on to see how much fun
you can have. For those of you who are
Junior Farmers, you may be interested to
know of some coming events in the
"fantastic" Zone 7 and the "extra
terrific" county of Bruce.
A group of musically inclined Junior
Farmers (and some not so inclined)
recently started the Bruce County Junior
Farmer Choir. This group is tuning -up for
the province wide competition "Sing 'N'
Swing" which will take place Nov. 27 in
Sarnia. Our fearless leader is "maestro"
Byron Ballagh from Teeswater. He is
doing an excellent job, considering some
of the talent he has to work with! Good
luck goes out to the choir on the 27th!
Bruce County, along with Huron,
Perth, and Grey counties, all belong to
Zone 7. Within the zone, there are various
activities including sports and an annual
THE YOUNG FARMER
conference. This years conference will be
held in Palmerston on November 13, with
20 members from each county attending.
Following the conference is a dance. The
zone winter games are being held in
Wingham this year on December 12. This
includes an active day of curling, badmin-
ton, volleyball, basketball. and various
other sports.
A bus Toad of male and female Junior
Farmers will be travelling through part of
Ontario on the Livestock Management
Tour. They will spend November 7-12
hearing interesting and educational ac-
counts of various livestock producers
throughout the province and complete the
tour with a day at the Royal Winter Fair
in Toronto.
Within our own county, we have an
upcoming dance sponsored by the Ripley
Junior Farmers on November Sth. This
dance will be at the Kincardine Pavilion
with the music provided by the D.J.
"Turntable." Ripley is also having their
annual banquet and dance in Underwood
on December 10th. Entertainment from
9-1 by Summer Rain.
Now you say - "Why should I join
Junior Farmers?"
You'll be joining an organization of
enthusiastic young men and women

across your county interested in their
community, and bound to try to improve
it. You will become involved in time
consuming but fantastic activities with
people your own age. Activities include
organizing and participating in dances,
car rallies, soccer tournaments, exchanges
with other counties or countries, choir
practices, competitions, conferences, pic-
nics, meetings, etc. The money raised in
these activities is used in community
betterment activities.
One recent event which took a lot of
time and hard work by a group of very
dedicated volunteers was the Octoberfest,
complete with sauerkraut, sausage, and
hats, sponsored by the Tara Club on
October 22.
So wouldn't you love being involved in
activities beneficial to both you and your
community?
Think of the Junior Farmer motto "self
help and community betterment" and
start thinking of some fresh ideas for your
club. For more information about join-
ing, talk to your friends, and neighbours.
You'll find many that are current
Junior Farmers, past Junior Farmers or
want to be Junior Farmers. Join together
and come to your next clubs meeting,
you'll be more than welcome!
