Farm to farm sales
Farm to farm sales of high moisture
corn are again popular this year. You
need weight and per cent moisture for
each load to accommodate sales. The
Ontario Grain and Feed Dealers Associa-
tion publishes tables showing the weight
of wet corn at different moisture levels
needed to produce a dry tonne. These
tables with suggested drying charges can
be picked up at the Stratford O.M.A.F.
office.
The tables are used to determine the
number of dry tonnes from wet weight.
It's then relatively simple to determine a
price by using the current price for dry
corn.
The seller has avoided a drying charge
of $12.-$13. by selling wet. He may be
willing to sell to you at the going price
minus drying. In return he'd likely want
you to provide transportation from the
field.
It's vital to weigh and moisture test
corn that is sold from farmer to farmer.
It's necessary in order to insure a fair deal
to both parties. As well, weight and
moisture test figures will be necessary in
order to collect any stabilization pay-
ments on the 1982 crop.
