The Rural Voice, 1982-10, Page 15FARM NEWS Trade mission to Los Angeles Ontario's first food sales mission to Los Angeles, California, generated more than $7 million in 1982 export sales of Ontario food products. Ontario companies sold a wide range of products to the greater Los Angeles market including cheddar cheese, wild rice, honey, pasta products, Italian -style specialty meats, Lake Superior lake trout, red and white table wines, German -style bread, smoked salmon, McIntosh apples, butter and apple tarts, and ale and lager beers. "We are very pleased that our food products were so well received," said Timbrell. "The reception, which featured displays and samples of Ontario products, attracted more than 325 representatives of major supermarket chains, brokers, food distributors and spirit importers." Meyer, Siena Foods Ltd., Toronto; James MacDonald; Ferroclad Fishery Ltd., Batchawana $ay; Paul Bosc, Chateau des Charmes, St. Catharines; E. Lamshoeft, Kasseler Food Products Inc., Missis- sauga; Milton Mandel, Smoked Fish Factory, Weston; Roger Knight, Knight's Appledon Fruit Farm Ltd., Colborne; Gibson Smith, Granny's Country Oven Bakery Ltd., Aurora; James Thompson, Carling O'Keefe Breweries Ltd., Toronto. Accompanying the mission were Robert Eaton (MPP — Middlesex), representing the Minister of Agriculture and Food, and Bill Richardson, of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food's international marketing division. "With a population of 10 million people, and inexpensive surface and air rates, the Los Angeles area is an affluent and lucrative market for quality Ontario food products," said Timbrell.
